AIBU to not understand thongs?

I hate them! I don't get how having a strip of material shoved up your arse is comfortable or attractive. They seem to make even the lingerie models look bad, which is quite an achievement, and they're so blimmin' obvious! I don't get why men find them sexy!

What's wrong with a nice lacy pair of French knickers?

You can't beat a nice pair of knickers for cuteness, and decent shorts avoid VPL- thongs are so nineties.

spicemonster · 28/11/2009 00:11

I wear them because I have a huge arse that gives me instant vpl otherwise. I don't like them and I certainly don't let other people see them but they are a necessary evil

pigletmania · 28/11/2009 00:17

GrumpyWhenWoken · 28/11/2009 00:19

it's true!! glad I can share it with you

pigletmania · 28/11/2009 00:24

thats another word for describing the vulva grumpy.

Ivykaty44 · 28/11/2009 00:25

the lady in the supermarket this morning thought a thong was a good idea under her white trousers - her cheeks were having a right jumping fest in the ball park moment - it wasn't a pretty picture

i would prefer VPL with white trousers not as vomit inducing over the tomatoes

pigletmania · 28/11/2009 00:28

Thongs are alright if you are a size 12 downwards but anything over no no no and I should know as i am a curvy lady myself.

GrumpyWhenWoken · 28/11/2009 14:42

apologies for the pissflaps comment last night - had had a few

fairycake123 · 28/11/2009 15:06

I like them. I'm not aware of them when I wear them.

I mean, I don't know, maybe I'm being totally crazy here but perhaps the reason some people wear them and other people don't is because [are you stting down?] some people find them comfortable and some people don't.

Morloth · 28/11/2009 15:07

I don't like 'em, felt like a permanent wedgy the one time I tried.

Thongs are for feet not bums.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 28/11/2009 15:10

Personally would much rather see a vpl than the horrific sight of the thong rearing its ugly head over the top of the trousers.

I go for shorts personally. Plus DH likes them - the stretch lace jobs.

thumbwitch · 28/11/2009 15:14

DH has suggested many times that he would like it if I wore them - I pointed out that I would probably look like a sumo wrestler in them; and also said I would wear them when he did. He's stopped going on about it since the sumo wrestler comment.

I loathe them - like cheesewire. I never have an issue with VPL either (M&S no sideseam hi-leg pants most of the time) but I also rarely wear clothes that would let a VPL show anyway.

hocuspontas · 28/11/2009 15:20

Big M & S magic pants here. Or none at all if they are all in the wash. Thongs look really uncomfortable to me. Why do they show over the top of trousers when you bend down? Normal pants don't.

cheesefarmer · 28/11/2009 15:20

I like thongs, as does dh. It feels weird when you first start wearing them but after 10 years I'm used to it. Sometimes your bum can eat them more than they should, you can still sort of get a wedgie situation, they shouldn't be right up your bum that's not comfy.

I have a problem with those lacy short things. I get like a front AND back wedgie x 10000000 I find them so uncomfy. Thye have a tiny wee square gusset and no elastic at the side. Anyone else find them un=cmfy or do I have as trange wide fanjo?! I'm not fat btw!

Trikken · 28/11/2009 15:21

I'd much wear a nice pair of 'Bridget Jones's' than a thong, have tried them but find them sooo uncomfy, and you cant be sexy when in pain.

fairycake123 · 28/11/2009 15:32

cheesefarmer I agree about the lacy shorts things - I just chucked a few pairs in the bin. Horribly wedgie-inducing.

spicemonster · 28/11/2009 16:40

I agree cheesefarmer - they don't work for me at all

Heated · 28/11/2009 16:43

It's like flossing your bum.

ImdreamingofaGROUCHYxmas · 28/11/2009 16:49

thats ok grumpy i will let you off. actually i should start a thread on the different names used for the vulva, i will add yours to it

ClaireyFairy82 · 28/11/2009 17:30

I have no problem in wearing thongs, but what I can't stand is when they sneak above your trousers leaving half an arse hanging out - yuk! I'm really self-conscious when I'm wearing them just in case I'm exposing myself and I can't stand seeing other people's hanging out either.

ImdreamingofaGROUCHYxmas · 28/11/2009 17:36

I tried for my mate's wedding (From the age of 15 I'd modeled my undercrackers on Mary Masterson in Some Kind Of Wonderful and pinched my DB's boxers, never moved forwards TBH) but the butt string was like sitting on barbed wire, made pouches of flab seep out of the edges and I felt awful. Plumped for Bridgette Jones' 'cover it all up Rita Hayworth looked wonderful' type granny pants and felt a million times fabber

GibbonInARibbon · 28/11/2009 17:43

I do think they look awful but I honestly find them the most comfy underwear If I catch myself in the mirror I do think oh dear God but I cannot abide VPL and shorts just make my arse hungry and I spend all day discreetly trying to pull them out.

cocobongo · 28/11/2009 18:07

Hate thongs myself (more because of my fat arse). But what annoys me is that, when you buy a nice bra out of somewhere like bravissimo, the matching pants are either a thong or else massive shorts/granny pants. What happened to nice knickers?
