Surely it is only relevant when something actually makes you laugh out loud? I've noticed on facebook that people seem to punctuate their sentences with lol, e.g. 'went into town today but it was raining lol. Was well busy so I came home lol. Now kids are in bed and I have a headache so I'm getting an early night lol'

I visulise these people having conversations peppered with 'Lol'

My 1st AIBU- I thought I'd start small

How's about LI

Laughing inwardly. That might be a bit more british

CJCregg · 25/11/2009 17:41

That just reminds me of an ex, who never laughed at my jokes but always said 'I'm laughing inside'.

Maybe my jokes were crap but it was still a dumping matter.

I like the idea of a simple ABG - Amused Big Grin.

Most of the time that is what I am doing, but as internet and messaging communication is largely text, I feel I have to emphasise that I find something funny.

I also use :S a bit...

Lawks! I feel a swoon coming on.

pispirispis · 26/11/2009 00:40

"Verily, I did slap my thigh in merriment."

Haven't read the entire thread so apols if already mentioned but I believe because there are probably so many more people computer literate and for so long that what was once deemed acceptable re acronyms is that we have become bored with the limited use of lol

I mean I suppose the beauty of rl convo's is that we can be creative and be as imaginative with regard to our use of language. I suppose the first people of t'net originally deemed lol appropriate and rightly so.

Having not surfed/MN'd/facebooked/interfaced/mailed and God knows what else for God knows how long, far be it little ole me to humbly suggest that maybe we need to be brave and venture forth with some new accro for lol?

There tho will be the poss that the peds will aggro over the txt spk ishoo so I dunno to lol or not to lol...........that is the question

Ooh have just discovered this Ha! or should that be lol?

CJCregg · 26/11/2009 14:47

LeQueen, it's because they're so immaculately and thoughtfully presented, of course.
