DD has a bad cold and is refusing any solid food, but is still eager to eat any paper she can manage to get her hands on (damn postman).

I think she is unreasonable. She is 10 months old.

I think you are overthinking this. Can you cut or roll some solids out wafer thin and post them through the letterbox to her?

DS went through a stage of refusing all my lovingly home cooked meals. Was helping DH re-pot a plant & was very content to munch on the compost!!

while I was typing she managed to snatch a boots voucher off the worktop and take a bite out of it

I've offered her all her favourite foods, just tried again to tempt her with buttered toast, and she won't have it

all she wants to eat is paper

I can safely say she has never seen anyone else eat it grrrrrrrr

Is it possible to get some nice handmade paper with petals or leaves embedded so it's at least healthy?
Not much use I am afraid, but PMSL that I don't have the most contrary child in the known universe.

DS used to do this when i was first weaning him, tbh he wasnt to interested in food to begin with, so i stayed calm and just kept offering but used to get really when he ate paper, we used to have to hide it all.....in fact you could rustle paper the other side of the room and he would high speed bum shuffle across to scoff it something his big sis and cousins would do for fun

Can you get her some edible rice paper? (like the pictures that come with character fairy cake mixes)
think eating non-food stuff is called Pica, its quite common and paper is not too bad (not to be encouraged though).
My dd2 , at 2 (now 14) used to eat bath sponges... ...had to ban them from house, even then if we went visiting, had to a quick inspection of bathrooms of friends/relatives because she would eat other peoples sponges too.
we still ban sponges.

I'll have a look for rice paper later today. It is just the frustration of offering her 8 different lunches in the hope of tempting her, when all she wants to eat is my recipe book! She's barely eaten since Friday.

When I was younger I used to rip down the sides of pages of books I was reading I don't know why I did it though.

Fibre my dears fibre!!! Spread it with peanut butter and not a bad diet. Oh sorry peanut butter is banned by the food police - wonder if there is any research on paper. I think she shows great taste - my friend's babe only really liked snotty tissues.

Mine (13 months) isn't adverse to a bit of paper either. He first stated his preference to me at 6 months old whilst I was having a clear out of our filing system. He managed to roll across the floor and quietly munch his way through a couple of letters before I realised what he was up to. Fortunately he was snacking on the 'to bin' pile. Does this qualify as BLW?

you should be able to find rice paper in some of the larger supermarkets , in the bakeing/cakemaking depatrments.

My dd1 eats paper. She likes the taste apparently . She is 5. She was four when she admitted this.

The school were very when I requseted a new spellings list as she had eaten the original.

Rice paper is not the same, according to her.

I think PICA is normal until around 2. Ds2 was really bad about it. Sand (bleurgh) and playdoh were favorites.

DS refused food until 7 months but chowed down on paper from 5. Best of all was the day he turned his nose up at the eggy bread, fruit salad and fromage frais, so I got him down and started clearing up... only to find him stuffing fists of the dogfood into his mouth. The dog, I may add, is on a disgusting prescription only food that smells like fish flavoured filth. And he fought me when I took him away, and sobbed as if his heart would break when I cleared his mouth with my index finger.

We've had to lock the dog's crate to keep him from the food now - poor dog has to bark to ask for entry - and move it away from the sides as he learned to reach through the bars.

He has his father's palate.

Oh, we also keep bath sponges on high shelves because he eats them. One of his is reserved for washing his bum (goes through the machine regularly, I hasten to add), so that one is naturally his preferred target.

I have no idea why I clicked on this thread but I just want to heartily pat kreecher on the back for making me hoot.

My DS3 eats paper. It drives me nuts. He is nearly 2.

I gave him a leaflet to keep him amused on the way home from shopping (before I realised the extent of his mania) he ate the whole bloody thing! There was not a crumb left.

He particularly likes toilet paper. He got a handful last week and when he saw me coming he stuffed the whole lot in his mouth and swallowed it before I could get to him. It was like that French and Saunders sketch with the wagon wheel

We hardly have any books left with all the pages/corners intact.

The boy aint right I tell ya.

When I was about 4 I used to eat paper and I especially liked the pink, shiny, school toilet paper.
When my mum found out she went ballistic at me (still not quite sure why), and I never ate paper again.
I wouldn't advocate that as a method of getting her to stop BTW.
