Friday night popped into fore mentioned toy shop as my friends after go go hammers aka num nums, mr sqiggles et al - we looked around the store for gift ideas & happened to see the manager who only a couple of weeks ago claimed to know me because the store opened 8 years ago & my eldest has grown up blah blah - anyway back to story i asked about go go pets to which his reply was youve no chance we are having a delivery tonight dont know how many but people will be qing from 6 am. So we left but my youngest has a tendency to climb which he was doing while peering through the managers office - he shouted mum theres go go pets in here i said no darling they havent any he said no there are go go pets in here anyway i went took a look expecting to see a half chewed num nums in the return box but no horror of horror 2 baskets of go gos i couldnt believe it!!! I rang my friend from outside i couldnt stop laughing how could they lie? But worse encourage people to que for 3 hours knowing full well they had approx 20 already there. Anyway i popped to the supermarket but i was still fuming so i went back - the manager refused to see me and sent out his younger looking assistant - i told him i was disgusted that what they were doing was wrong - his defence was we have been told to put them out tomorrow - he also asked where we had seen them i told him please dont try and tell me i didnt see what i saw at this point my son ran to the window and shouted theyve gone! Well i threatened him with the local rag told him again of my disgust. What did i achieve? - my son told me on Saturday he was so proud of me because the man lied .

Well it's like when games/CDs come out on a certain date, they get delivered before midnight but they can't hand them out til the specific date.

We do actually have them - we also have real hamsters which are half the price but do poop alot!! Must admit the pooping one have been played with 50 times more than the go go pets. It wasnt a new release these have been on the shelves(or hiding in the managers office) for months - i think the manager didnt have time to see me he was busy playing with his go go pets!!!!!

I've had a similar (non-toy related) lie told to me recently, where I laughed in the face of the official who told me that, at the local autism unit due to open just in time for DS to attend, there are only 6 places (I know there are 12!).

YANBU and your DS is a clever boy

I often wonder whether the staff keep a lot of the sought after merchandise to sell on ebay for inflated prices.

Must be tempting.

Your right there £40 on amazon at the moment - my friend did go at 9.04 saturday morning and all go go's gone funnily enough - she was told they were having another delivery that night and only one per customer -what a farce!!! I did sleep better knowing i'd gone back its not something i would do but im getting grumpier in my old age - also with my children witnessing it and trying to teach right from wrong what message was this giving? had i of not said anything.

YANBU to be a bit stressed about it as it does seem a little silly, but the store manager wouldn't have been the one to decide whether to sell them that day or the next morning. They should have kept them out of the way until they were ready to sell though. I do see why he lied. To say "oh we have some in my office but can't sell you one til tomorrow" would have made anyone stressed. He lied but got caught out.

When i worked as a travel agent we used to lie all the time to customers, create an urgency, offer them £100 off for 24 hrs only (having already added £100 to the holiday), tell them there are only XX number of seats left (on a pratically empty plane) or let them pay exra for a sea view / balcony etc when all the rooms have them and they would have got one anyway if they hadn't have asked or paid! It's all part of the job.
