short arms deep pockets
bono (i know he's not on this) is the worst offender!

2shoes · 20/11/2009 23:12

oh I know
they are so annoying, I just saw cheryl cole patrobising about the poor kids

I find it a repulsive spectacle when rich people ask the not so rich or downright poor to hand over money.

But at least money is being raised for charity, and so someone must be paying out despite or maybe because of the sordid celebrity thing.

TheCrackFox · 20/11/2009 23:14

Maybe they do give some money.

IMO Bono should sell all his possessions and live in a Yurt. Hypocrite.

spookycharlotte121 · 20/11/2009 23:15

taylor swift donated 13,000. she is only 19 as well so theyre not all bad and gary barlow organised a concert that generated 2million..... its not all bad.

FiveGoMadonTheDanceFloor · 20/11/2009 23:15

Was talking with DH about this, to be fair Taylor Swift did donate.

nancy75 · 20/11/2009 23:15

i would be happier to see bono head on a spike, that would make me dig deep and give

FiveGoMadonTheDanceFloor · 20/11/2009 23:15

Totally agree with you about Bono.

MillyR · 20/11/2009 23:18

Nancy75, you sound like the Chumbawumba record 'Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records.'

nancy75 · 20/11/2009 23:19

millyr - dont know what that is - sounds like it could be a good or a bad thing!

caramelwaffle · 20/11/2009 23:19

yanbu

Bono, for example.......

spookycharlotte121 · 20/11/2009 23:19

I do hate children in need though. ds has enjoyed watching it but many parts have had me in tears.... especially the two girls whos father had cancer and waas in a hospice. was a little bit too close to home and has left me feeling quite low.... then they make you feel guilty for not donating but im in no position to be giving away money this year.

bonkerz · 20/11/2009 23:21

if cole sold her earrings she could raise a fair bit of cash for sure!
instead i scraped together £3 for Ds to take to school today, £3 for a t shirt for DD to wear to playschool and an extra £1 for the priviledge of wearing it......left me with £5 till Tuesday to buy bread, milk and pasta!

2shoes · 20/11/2009 23:22

i have turned it of
it is annoying me too much,
why drag some poor girll on to say how she wishes her siter was "normal" lovely.

Must admit, this has struck me too. I remember Gary Lineker, a big hero of mine in my youth, appealing to the likes of me to help children with cancer. As it happens I do, with small donations and fund-raising, but I'm not rich and in the big scheme of things my contribution is a piddle in the ocean.

But then I think... hold on Matey! You're a millionnaire! How's about you give up the Merc and drive a Ford, hows about you put your hand in your pocket? And of course, he's not alone, though all credit to the richer people in our society who DO go the extra mile.

jasper · 20/11/2009 23:23

But we don't know whether they donate or not

nancy75 · 20/11/2009 23:26

bono doesn't even pay his income tax! he wants to end world poverty he could start with giving some money to the tax man!

nancy75 · 20/11/2009 23:27

oh, but then he might not have enough left over to get his hat a 1st class seat - it might have to go economy - or god forbid easyjet!

GossipMonger · 20/11/2009 23:28

isnt Terry Wogan paid a bomb to do this?

famishedass · 20/11/2009 23:28

I'm totally with jasper here.

What makes you think they don't make donations for charity? Not everyones shouts their good deeds from the rooftop with a megaphone you know - YABU.

MillyR · 20/11/2009 23:28

Nancy75, they wrote it as a critique of LiveAid; it includes the line 'Cliff Richard, we are going to nail you to a cross, tonight.' Your Bono line reminded me of it.

famishedass · 20/11/2009 23:33

Is £37 million pounds not enough then? You want more than that?

pointydogg · 20/11/2009 23:34

I assume they do.

southeastastra · 20/11/2009 23:37

celeb culture is pretty vulgar
