I am finishing work today to go on maternity leave. Last time I went on mat leave I worked from home, so didn't have any kind of fuss, just didn't switch my laptop or phone on the following week.

Anyhoo, I am now office-based, working 4 days a week, been here for 2 years, I'm the HR Manager. The last lady that went off on mat leave at the beginning of October had a huge fanfare, balloons all around her desk, banners all over the office, Good Luck signs everywhere.

And for me? Nothing.

Because it's your second I should think. Definitely.

staryeyed · 20/11/2009 11:26

Is it possible they have got something planned? If not then that's crap and forget them they are not worth the worry.

Pinkjenny · 20/11/2009 11:26

I suppose the other girl that finished was having twins, and they were her first.

I was thinking second babay as well. However, some people practically organise that stuff for themselves.

MintyCane · 20/11/2009 11:28

Pinkjenny · 20/11/2009 11:28

Who cares?! You're leaving to have a new baby! What's a few balloons compared to that?

They're just people you happen to work with. Don't sweat the small stuff hun. xxxxxx

AprilMeadow · 20/11/2009 11:33

MintyCane · 20/11/2009 11:34

Yeah and that one on the left over there has always been a loon anyway.

Pinkjenny · 20/11/2009 11:34

I know you would, AM. Ah well, maybe it's the price you pay for being the HR bod. Or perhaps they really don't like me.

i felt like that in my last job too....i always was one of the first to get cards for everyone else and say lets have a night out.....but when i was ill with gall bladder removal...not one card, just one text as a general enquiry...and when i resigned...absolutely nothing.

It was only on day i noticed that cards for people were being bought out of the staff xmas donation box.....how thoughtless. Glad im not there anymore.

Don't sweat it - I think we have all been there with work colleagues (even co called friends) from time to time when they have not recognised important events for us.

You are going to have a BABY! This will fade very soon and your new bundle will be with you soon enough!

Good luck! (flanked with balloons!)

Pinkjenny · 20/11/2009 11:39

Thanks everyone. That's it, I'm making them all redundant when I get back.

alypaly · 20/11/2009 11:41

yeah....thoughtless lot....hope you enjoy baby...forget about everything else...nothing else matters

largeginandtonic · 20/11/2009 11:43

Bastards.

Nip out and buy a card to thank them all for the fuss they have made of you. Hand it over and look solemn as you leave

You are having a baby

Pinkjenny · 20/11/2009 11:44

Ooooh, I'd love to have the balls to do that, LG&T.

ShowOfHands · 20/11/2009 11:49

I do hope you're not doing any work for your last 45 minutes. Wander the corridors singing 'for she's a jolly good fellow' with a manic grin.

FWIW, I like you. I like you an awful lot and the only reason I wouldn't make a fuss of you if you were going away for an extended period would be because I was sulking in my utter sadness. Could that be it? They're bereft?

alypaly · 20/11/2009 11:53

also youre having a baby

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 20/11/2009 11:54

oh go on - do it!

That's a fab idea.

upahill · 20/11/2009 11:57

LOL Pink.. at Sulking and nobody can see you.Years ago I fell out with my best friend and she didn't notice!! I had to call round at her house two days later to say I'd fallen out with her (I'm laughing thinking about the silliness of it all now!) It was mad. She just said 'Have you? Why's that then?' Barking!!!! We were laughing about that a couple of weeks ago.

Back to your issue I understand how hacked off your are. Not much you can do about though. My ex colleague has finished from the place me and her worked together after she had a period of ill health (I left first) and she didn't get a goodbye, Hope your OK nothing. She went to clear her desk after being off a short while to find her desk had been given to someone else and her belongings had been thrown!

We worked for a different team to the others but had a large open plan office sitting beside other colleagues and had the same line manager. When one of them left it was a night into Manchester, presents, cards, cakes the lot. I left and got a £15 HMV voucher just as I was about to go through the door. I took it with a sense of humour and I work for the same company but doing something totally different and have fantastic colleagues from different teams who are inclusive and generous.

I'm feel sad for you Pink it's not nice

Pinkjenny · 20/11/2009 12:02

I'm off now. My manager and one of the PAs have been in with some vouchers and a card.

Still think it's shit. Where are the other directors? Anyway, I'm off. I'm going home with my tail well and truly between my legs.
