"I also have a firend who works very, very high up in thsese things in the US who says it's all bollocks as well."

Someone high up the US says it's all bollocks?

Oh well then. That must be right.

Jeesh.

throckenholt says a lot needs to be government led. I think this is partly right, but it is also true that the government can only lead if we are giving clear indications we will follow.

I believe there are opportunities for a real partnership approach on this.

I started raising some of these questions with my MP at around the time the stern report came out - about 2 years ago? He has done a load of work on this and a lot of things have shifted.

I have just gone back over the paper I wrote for him then and annotated it with some thoughts of where we are now.

There is still clearly an awfully long way to go, but it is worth seeing the progress that has actually been made.

Today being my busiest day of the week - all I have time to say is that some people will not listen to any argument. And that doesn't just include scientists some people don't listen to warnings

LindenAvery · 26/11/2009 10:20

tatt - Ditto!!

Works both ways tis the nature of science don't you know.

Why doesn't everybody breastfeed when they are warned about risks associated with bottlefeeding. Why don't all parents immunize their children against MMR when they are warned about the risks associated with catching measles? Why don't people modify their alcohol intake when they are warned about the risks associated with drinking too much?

True scientists question studies/results and consider the variables and look at papers in disagreement and consider what they don't know. Politics and media destroy all that is good about science.

Time to bow out. Who honestly believes anyone can predict the future accurately enough to be of any use? Place your bets
