we can afford it but is it a bit of a waste in you opinion?

it feeds 10-12 and we have 5, so there would be plenty left over, which i would use in risottots and pies and a noodle dish

anyone know if the skin the inside birds on this things?

heres the one im thinking of ordering

I spent nearly £90 on a goose last year - it served 9 people on Christmas Day, and god know how many more meals thereafter (froze some of it). And we have had delicious goose-fat roast potatoes all year, with a litre of the stuff still in the freezer.

Go for it!

Sassybeast · 17/11/2009 15:21

If you can afford it go for it but personally, I think it looks weird and sound bizarre I don't think the cost is extortionate but I dunno [irrational smilie needed] Think it's the layers of skin and fat that put me off.

MaryBS · 17/11/2009 15:26

My brother had one last year, and he really rates them (but then he and SIL are snobs ).

If you think how much it costs to have Christmas at a hotel, then I guess £90 doesn't seem so bad.

Ewe · 17/11/2009 15:31

What on earth is that?!

I don't get it. Have they stuffed two other birds in the biggest birds carcass?

I don't think £90 is unreasonable to spend on Christmas dinner, a good size organic turkey is normally about £70 odd but I just can't get my head around that thing.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 17/11/2009 15:34

Boak. Just Boak.

AvadaKedavra · 17/11/2009 15:42

The Aldi one is just divine I would be getting it from there agin this year but we are away

AvadaKedavra · 17/11/2009 15:45

Aldi is just under 2kg for £9.99 if I remember rightly.

Morloth · 17/11/2009 16:17

Depends, where do you live and can I come for Christmas?

mazzystartled · 17/11/2009 16:45

I always think there's something a bit horrid about more than one animal/bird/life form's meat on a single plate.

And the one in the link just looks weird - I can't imagine it will look very nice when served up at the table.

And will it fit in your oven?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/11/2009 16:58

I think these are fab, and if you will use up the leftovers then not a waste at all.

I'm really surprised that so many people are finding the idea grim/weird, it's only like having stuffing surely?

SoupDragon · 17/11/2009 17:01

IMO, that is an utterly ridiculous waste of money.

posieparker · 17/11/2009 17:03

Why don't you spend a little less and give something to a homeless hostel?

Jeez ladies go and have a look at the poor people and then spend your money.

Morloth · 17/11/2009 17:04

OTT here, but have Ocado opened their Christmas delivery slots yet? I have been keeping an eye on the website but can't see them - am I missing something?

mazzystartled · 17/11/2009 17:05

it's like some genetically modified freaky thing

have you seen that film " o lucky man" it reminds me of that .

sorry, but surely one large bird is much nicer?

and op if it feeds 10 - 12 and there are 5 of you - yes it's a bit of a waste!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/11/2009 17:06

But why is it a waste of money? Christmas is surely one time of year when we can be indulgent, and better IMO to indulge in something like this than buy £60 of plastic rubbish to go in stockings?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/11/2009 17:07

Morloth - the slots have been open for ages for me, do you pay the monthly membership thing?

frazzled74 · 17/11/2009 17:12

i have spent too much on dcs presents to pay out £90 for the dinner, but if i could i would. I will have 2 of the aldis ones as i did last year.

posieparker · 17/11/2009 17:13

Yes Christmas is really the time to indulge yourselves, it's not about giving and it's not about looking over your shoulder at the millions unemployed or children that can expect nothing for Christmas.

posieparker · 17/11/2009 17:15

When you're tucking in to your extortionate overly large bird(s) and pulling your, no doubt expensive, crackers I'm sure the troubles of people all over the country and world will be far from your mind.

bamboo · 17/11/2009 17:15

I'm vegetarian so !

Only came on to say that in our house it isn't Christmas unless we've seen the episode of River Cottage where Hugh does the Ten Bird Roast.

Makes a three bird roast sound a bit understated .

Morloth · 17/11/2009 17:17

Thanks Alibaba, no I don't - but I might sign up for Christmas. We are away the week before and was going to stock the freezer ready to go for Christmas Day.

AvadaKedavra · 17/11/2009 18:39

Posieparker, do you practise what you preach?

get rid of your internet connection, you could be donating that money to the poor y'know Hope are you donating your Xmas dinner/present money yourself??

Carrie, enjoy your bird -s-

juneybean · 17/11/2009 18:41

I don't know if I dare suggest it but I saw one on the Aldi advert that looked yummy, can't remember what three meats it was.

carriedababi · 17/11/2009 19:29

posie, i suppose you'll be running the local soup kitchen then on xmas day then.

the aldi one does sound good, but i don't like frozen meat too much.

OP posts:
posieparker · 17/11/2009 19:39

Actually I do practice what I preach...
I will be feeding my dcs on Christmas Day, not receiving any presents myself, nor DH.
Can't get rid of the internet as apparently that would mean the dcs would be in poverty.
And I will be in a local soup kitchen for one hour on Christmas day.
£90 on a bird for five people is scandalous.
