I am quite upset.

He said he looked for straws yesterday while at the supermarket for me to take in order to drink my water etc with during labour 'but they only had chrristmas novelty ones, or curly wurly straws'.

And I said 'why did you not get my a curly wurly straw' and he said 'not appropriate, you are an adult'

HMPH. I told him I would be embarrassing him in ways more inappropriate than drinking from a curly wurly straw when I am in labour

He is insistent that I go without rather than have one. How rude?

Is this your first birth? By all means send him out to buy you the straw but you may find that once in labour you won't give a hoot...

tigerfeet you best be quick, baby is due any time now! if you can send it by speedy post, that would be great. If you could make it a sparkly one with flashing lights so I can embarrass him even more, that would be perfect.

Send him back to get a straw of some sort - but in all honesty the curly ones are a total pain, because you have to suck and suck for ages before you get anything, and you're likely to curse the thing before long!

But a nice sparkly Christmas one would be fine...

Why will you need a straw just because you are in labour?
The list of bonkers things women in labour/ small babies need just grows.

Depending on what positions you end up in, it can be really difficult drinking out of a cup, so a straw can be handy to help you keep your fluids up. eg if you're on all fours on the floor...

Tell him to nip into McDonalds, they have loads just sitting about.

I was on all 4s for a while, but still found it easy to change to kneeling position with support and sip from glass. Sounds like a cycling bottle or one of the sports bottles would do better than a straw as very little suction needed for those. It still strikes me as an odd thing to be worrying about.

However I would recommend a lidded cup with bendy straw rather than an inflexible curly wurly straw for ease of access in all positions

Now don't get me wrong...i am not saying I specifically wanted a curly wurly straw, but felt this was not a reason to not buy one. I would also have been happy with a christmas novelty straw.

However, I agree that a cup with abendy straw is more appropriate, as such I am going to send him out to get me one right now. Ideally from the marine aquarium. I really want one of those ones. That will make things much easier in labour

I found I could drink normally at times in labour and when I couldn't having a drink was the last thing on my mind.

Nononono, do not listen to all these reasonable people with reasonable suggestions.
Now is the time for utterly unreasonable demands - and get them fulfilled.
Personally I think you should have a selection of straws/drinking bottles/sippy cups/bottles of champagne or anything else you can think off .
May I recommend a large Snickers bar for after? Is indispensible pick-me-up after labour.

AHA! He would have time too, to just nip out to the shops and get them, back again. I had another one, so they are exactly 30 mins apart...the baby won't be here anytime soon so he can do it if he is quick .

I told him about the vodka rhubarb and he said 'you can have vodka if you want, i will let you have that .
