or at least admits to it.

I am a serial offender I have just gone down to 6 points from 9 points and two have been for going over 40 in a 30 Zone (both in two lane traffic). The last time was by an actual traffic cop in front of a school patrol on a pedestrian crossing (with traffic lights) doing 58 in a 40 zone..very embarrassing.... If I lose my licence I will also lose my job so I am my own worst enemy...I just can't help myself.

I do consider myself to be a careful driver I just think where I live we have really ridiculous speed restrictions, I am careful in residential areas and where there are schools/school patrols with no pedestrian lights.

Don't see the problem with speed in general!

Would much prefer the person in front on country lanes to be doing 70 than 30! It's those that drive painfully slowly on roads that are designed for speed that worry me much, much more!

I will try to keep my speed down in 30mph areas though. Just don't like those who drive at 30mph wherever they are!

Oh, and 'Baby on board' signs are my pet hate too! May as well say 'Mother not concentrating!'

OrmIrian · 15/11/2009 16:56

I do. On certain roads - like mways. I always stick to the limits in built up areas and on narrow roads.

Got points for it once which has made me more cautious.

FabioTwitterCat · 15/11/2009 16:57

I speed.
On m'moped.
I have no licence to lose.

It is much more dangerous to drive too slowly on roads where the majority of traffic moves quickly! That is why there is a minimum speed limit on motorways.

Rindercella · 15/11/2009 17:03

Pug, I wonder if you realise that the highest proportion of road deaths are on those country lanes you like to speed along? There are far more risk factors - such as concealed entrances, horse riders, cyclists, etc., which you could not possibly foresee.

The maximum speed limit on a single carriageway is 60mph, not 70mph anyway! And the minimum speed limit on a m/way is 30mph.

Never been done speeding in the UK, but I got speeding tickets in Arizona and Texas on HUGE, LONG, EMPTY roads where the speed limit was a stingy 60 or 65 mph.

Policeman with a huge shotgun on his passenger seat informed me there are a lot of 'animal wrecks' in that area

Oblomov · 15/11/2009 17:07

I speed.
I do 80 on the motorway ever day thta I go to work. Try not to speed in a 30 zone.
Can't believe I'm alone.

Oblomov · 15/11/2009 17:08

Never had any points.

MitchyInge · 15/11/2009 17:08

hello lady anon, am also down to 6 points from 9 - all for speeding, I do like getting a bit of fresh air around my wheels BUT have worked hard to mend my ways and am now mostly to be found trundling around below the speed limit in a close-to-death land rover

in fact am selling my car to reduce likelihood of getting more points

Ladyanonymous · 15/11/2009 17:08

Worse than speeding and even drink driving are the total morons I STILL see driving round whilst talking on a hand held mobile phone...but they don't get stopped any more do they because the police force get no revenue from thise fines .

IMO driving with one hand, totally distracted by a telephone call is much more dangerous than speeding.

EldonAve · 15/11/2009 17:09

I speed although I don't go as fast as I did pre kids

Morloth · 15/11/2009 17:09

CarmenSanDiego never seen what a cow/deer can do to a car at 100km/hour then? Roos are worse. I refuse to drive at night in the bush for this reason.

brightwell · 15/11/2009 17:09

I try not to but have had a couple of wake up calls when I've been doing 35'ish in a 30 & spotted a mobile "safety/speed camera van". Luckily I've not yet been done. I drive as part of my job.

pugsandseals · 15/11/2009 17:10

So just because you like to drive quickly means you don't slow down around corners? Now that really would be silly!

Those I am talking about are those who live in cities but take a 'drive in the country' to look at the scenary, who really do not know how to drive a country lane or over 30mph! They tend to have no peripheral vision & no ability to concentrate on what is going on around them.

When stuck behind them good drivers have had their foot on the break for about 5 seconds before they have even realised there is a horse just infront of them!

Surely, you know the ones I mean?????

MitchyInge · 15/11/2009 17:10

does 80 actually count as speeding though?

when I picked up 6 points I was clocked at quite a bit more than that, most of the people I overtook were probably doing about 85

it is v difficult, if you are a paratelic type person, to keep your speed down but have found other ways to get my adrenaline kicks

Oblomov · 15/11/2009 17:11

Not that I am condoning overtaking recklessly on a roundabout, but Realitybites example is perfect of how slow drivers can cause accidents.
Why drive 40 on a 60 mph road? The cars behind get frustrated and then someone overtakes carelessly.
Slow driers can cause accidents.

MitchyInge....I feel your pain..I have thought about getting a car with a smaller engine to keep me under control.....

SparklyAlice · 15/11/2009 17:12

I have 3 points for speeding 47mph in a 40 (but only just into the 40 zone) Gutted as i am a very careful driver now, since having DD.

Never got any points when i used to race around in my metro (used to do Basingstoke to Stevenage in an hour )
