I make handmade jewellery and stuff as a hobby but lately i have decided to sell some of my makes, i've had one person ask me to make a certain style colour for her and has then ended up asking me to make several things for her but now she says she can't pay for them until such and such a date (which has now gone) so now i have laid money out to buy the beads (which she knows as i told her i didn't have any the right colour) and i could really use the money right now. Then i've had someone else ask for something very specific that no one else would really want, so i spent hours making it andf she is ignoring my e-mails

AIBU to be pissed off with these people and now i feel like i'm not going to go out of my way to make stuff for people any more as it is a mke next to nothing out of doing it anyway

Of course yanbu, it's awful they've done this. Next time ask for a deposit first, maybe?

Indith · 14/11/2009 10:36

I think that if you are going to sell stuff then you need to go about it in a more business like manner. I understand why you have not, I really do, but they are taking the piss in a way they would not with a "proper" business. I would take deposits to cover the raw materials then the rest of the payment to cover your time when the article is finished. Agree dates and so on.

Firawla · 14/11/2009 13:00

yes take deposits from them in future, like 50% before its made and 50% after. if they are serious they should not mind that
it is v rude of them to behave like that

Agree with all the previous posters.

Also, give her to the end of the week to cough up, then list them on ebay.... I bet they'll sell for christmas...

CLOVER81 · 14/11/2009 14:25

I have asked someone I know to make me something but i was more than happy to pay half upfront tbh i would have paid for it all upfront if she wanted genuine people would be more than happy x

I have had the same thing happen with my hand personalised blankets. I never take a deposit, but I know I should. I think it's because I wouldn't dream of letting someone down with a payment, so don't expect anyone else to be unreliable.

Start asking for a non refundable deposit.

Thanks everyone i think i will have to toughen up lol x

I think if people are genuine, they won't mind paying up front anyway.
