They are both ruined with a dull grey blue tint. I spent ages soaking one to remove a yellow colour run he inflicted last week whilst 'trying to be helpful'. I've told him you don't wash (new) dark blue fabric with whites. I am seething. Does he even have a brain?
No doubt I ABU but I can't help it.

clicky here for a suitable phrase to utilise

Oh, Mrs SB, I feel for you. How idiotic of him, it doesn't take much to think before pressing 'start' on the machine. My DH has done this too. It's bloody annoying, isn't it? And makes me ask myself: how come I know this stuff but he doesn't? I wasn't born with this knowledge! And: why the hell do I have to end up fixing his mess? If I'd done it to his clothes, I wouldn't have shrugged helplessly and then left him to sort it out.

I do think that if you actually called him a "flaming idiot" you were a tad U to do so - much as it's annoying, there are bigger things in life to get upset about (and frankly you may have wasted a perfectly good insult which you'll possibly need for a more heinous crime one day). But you have my full sympathy. And in the meantime, why don't you write a list of treats he can give you next time he's thinking of being 'helpful'?

E.g.: (copy and paste)

  • Buy me uber-expensive chocolates
  • Take me for tea at the Ritz
  • Hire a sexy masseur-cum-actor whose initials are SB to come to our home while you're out
  • Buy me diamond earrings

You get the picture

Put all his whites in with a new red flannel.

Accidentally.

MrsSeanBean · 13/11/2009 16:39

Hi Mrs MH Liking the thinking here.

I'm such a softie though, I've already sent him a text to apologise - now I've calmed down a bit. I wouldn't have the heart to put in a red flannel 'accidentally' - I console myself with the fact he is too dim to know any better.

ROFL at "too dim to know any better" - is this your DH?

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 13/11/2009 16:47

YABU to own a dark blue duvet cover.

NormaSknockers · 13/11/2009 16:53

At least he tried - but I feel your frustration! DH has stretched all my tops from pegging them on the line & stretching them alllll the way aross!

oldraver · 13/11/2009 19:49

Both my DS1 and DB think that anything not white is a 'coloured'. So whites do get seperated but pale pinks/blues/lemons any type of pastels are fair game for being chucked in with dark colours.

JaynieB · 13/11/2009 20:06

I think 'flaming idiot' is pretty mild! But some credit for trying

My feckless ExH once told me that he had done four loads of washing when I came home from work one evening seeing him not dressed, the Playstation on and his cereal bowl still on the side unwashed or soaked along with the remnants of his lunch as usual. Bear in mind that I was paying for DD's CM while he lounged around and had picked her up and brought her home.

I was gobsmacked because there were only a few of DD's bits to wash AFAIK. Then he explained that he had done a load of whites, a load of pinks, a load of yellows, a load of greens...

MrsSeanBean · 14/11/2009 08:28

brockleybelle · 14/11/2009 08:51

My dh put a silk dress i bought for a wedding in the wash. of course it was ruined. he told me he was trying to be helpful in getting through the washing that had been piling up in the basket. why are men so clueless with these things?
