To want to be middleclass?

holliejobber · 08/11/2009 23:16

Im not though. I live in a council house! These are the things i have done to try and 'raise my game';
Have a vegetable patch.
Breastfeed for ages.
Go to baby massage classes.
Recycle my household waste.
Try not to watch jeremy kyle.
I am hoping to get a place at uni in september, that will definately make me middleclass surely?

Coffee tables defy class boundaries

I do hope that your tongue is firmly in your cheek Sabire. It can be difficult to tell if someone is being serious or not online.

BaronessBarbaraKingstanding · 09/11/2009 13:40

No, you look like just as much of a tosser to privately educated self confident poeple.

maybe it's the thick skin that is the difference?

Thick skin does often = tosser I've noticed, and knows no barriers to class.

teameric · 09/11/2009 13:42

Lets just agree we're all in a class of our own

shockers · 09/11/2009 13:42

No carry on

onebatmother · 09/11/2009 13:43

roffle sabire
Yes,yes, tribal. But I note that other tribes aren't quite as fantastically competitive with one another, are they ?

sabire · 09/11/2009 13:45

My husband's working class roots govern the dialect used in our house. Our sitting room is the 'front room', where we hang a picture of the Queen and our collection of Franklin Mint figurines. yuck!

And we keep the plastic covers on all the chairs.

shockers · 09/11/2009 13:48

MIL... is that you??

ZephirineDrouhin · 09/11/2009 13:49

They're gorgeous, sabire.

Our house (not ours and a flat to be accurate) is an appalling mess and full of books. Am middle class/underclass hybrid.

daftpunk · 09/11/2009 13:49

upper class...or (genuine) working class....only thing to be,...anything in the middle is naff....

you are neither....give up and give in to a life of dullness...

sabire · 09/11/2009 13:49

Being thick skinned is a huge blessing Baroness when it comes to encounters with angry, self-righteous people who are determined to take offence about .... well, almost everything.

sabire · 09/11/2009 13:51

Zephirine - having a slutty house is a sign that you're a member of a) the underclass or b) the upper middle class. In my experience working class women tend to keep a very nice home, even when they work full-time, and judge each other by the state of their upholstery. But then they've got more time on their hands because they don't read!

MorrisZapp · 09/11/2009 13:54

lol, that's true sabire. I grew up thinking I was 'poor' because I lived in a messy house and wore jumble sale clothes.

The penny didn't drop until I was about 21 or so that in fact I was considered 'privileged' in the big scheme of things.

shockers · 09/11/2009 13:55

Oh dear... you've really done it now....

BaronessBarbaraKingstanding · 09/11/2009 13:56

If that's me Sabire, I'm not 'offended' just find the banging on about class on MN nauseating and rather odd.

I now gather you ar being ironic. as I said that wasn't clear enough in earlier posts which did make you sound like a tosser. imo.

Tossers rarely offend me, but do make me think 'tosser.'

Maybe make your irony clearer in future?

moondog · 09/11/2009 13:56

Baroness, when did you have a senseofhumourectomy. and more importantly, did you go private or have it on the NHS?

Sabire's wit is wasted on you.

Rollmops · 09/11/2009 13:57

What's wrong with scent I'd like to know, kindly???

CitizenPrecious · 09/11/2009 13:58

scent is correct, I believe, rollmops

perfume is vulgar

ZephirineDrouhin · 09/11/2009 14:02

sabire - I know. I am having anxiety attacks about dd's first playdate with her best friend at school (and btw there are no Guardian reading mc types at my school gates - your area can't be that rough).

CitizenPrecious · 09/11/2009 14:02

...fuckinell ark at me coming over all Nancy Mitford

...in fact I have a mcockernee accent you could strike a fuckin match on

ZephirineDrouhin · 09/11/2009 14:03

I mean her first playdate at our house. I think her mum is going to be appalled.

I am assuming you are joking sabire!Reading the guardian and veg boxes aren't indicative of class and sneering at other mothers is snobbery not mc!

Baroness I think you are being a bit of a meany

if you don't like the harping on about class on mn, why on earth would you even look at a thread like this one?

oh, and sterling work OP- I like the "raise my game"- roffle
