to think that the average debating ability of Mumsnetters has dropped considerably over the past year?

I was browsing through some old threads earlier, and the general standard of debate has dropped. People here used to be able to follow a thread and give a pertinent response, backed up with careful research. Lately the response is likely to be completely unrelated to the original point, and passive-aggressive to boot.

Agree Swedes, agree Hully (!), agree Hoochie. My feelings changed after DM fiasco, not moldies. Wish I had the willpower to just fuck off .

Swedes2Turnips0 · 08/11/2009 21:05

I think Mumsnet has reached a crisis point and needs to split into two.

Aitch - I've confronted and accepted my urge to be Doing A Good Thing. It's as existential as it gets!

southeastastra · 08/11/2009 21:05

haven't noticed any of your names starting new threads lately

Lizzylou · 08/11/2009 21:06

Aitch, I didn't pass comment on the strength of the research linked to, just that it used to happen a lot more. Not always successfully, even a dullard like me could see that

I agree, Swedes it has become all trolls and tragedy at the moment, not all of MN, but largely. There are still pockets of fun/enlightenment.

Lizzylou · 08/11/2009 21:07

I want to be a well dressed Slut though, Swedes, where does your split leave me?

scottishmummy · 08/11/2009 21:07

some emotive hand wringing going on.crisis?pah!

for millionth time don't exaggerate

daftpunk · 08/11/2009 21:08

yep..agree hoochie....very few posters stand out anymore....and deffo not as funny....too many people taking themselves way too seriously..

but it's still a fab place to spend the odd half hour....

Greensleeves · 08/11/2009 21:08

Aitch, aren't you a 10/10er though?

I don't think the standard of debate has dropped, there always were the "other" threads, I just ignored them and I still do

but then I am not moldie material anyway [passive-aggressive]

plus3 · 08/11/2009 21:09

I have to admit to being more of a lurker than a poster, but for a long time now. MN has changed, but equally what I take from it has also changed. I feel more secure in my parenting style to not look for advice as much as I first did. I tend to stay away from the sadder posts, but the debates don't seem to be there anymore.

Swedes2Turnips0 · 08/11/2009 21:09

I've started a few threads in the last couple of weeks.

Some of them have had no response whatsoever.

Hello Bibbity.

I'm going to have a new policy of saying hello to everyone I "know," as it struck me in the bath the other night that it is weird to undertake an interchange with someone one day, and then not say hello on another. All the ducks agreed.

it's never my fault .....but i'm the one with an ASBO...

bloody not fair..

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/11/2009 21:16

However, if we are a site of 800,000 users these days, its no wonder the interesting stuff gets lost.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 08/11/2009 21:17

no, i have stuck my head round the door maybe five times when i've seen franny posting, as that's the only place i see her nowadays, but i don't stick around. they seem nice, but it's all a bit 'how did you get on this morning?' and 'is ds's toe any better?' and i just want a LAFF.

it's all going to the dogs, i tell you, even the wankers were talking about their kids last time i looked on there.
