Spinster?

Horrible word anyway. I find it really sexist and prefer the term bachelorette.

I put her straight and told her what I thought of the term and that I couldn't be a spinster anyway as i have a child. Also, if she is a friend she shouldn't make snide comments.

She is single AND childless.

This friend always puts me down subtely so i may have to call time.

Sorry bizarre thread title.

To be annoyed that my friend called me a spinster.

Typing with a toddler wrestling with my boobs is a nightmare!

What the hell is a bachelorette?

NoBiggy · 05/11/2009 21:49

it'a a tiny cup-a-soup

hf128219 · 05/11/2009 21:50

Do you spin wool? Maybe that's what she meant. If not YANBU.

However if you do YABU.

And maybe she chooses to be single - and childless.

JockTamsonsBairns · 05/11/2009 21:50

Spinster is awful, but then "bachelorette" ain't much better really. Why do you need a term for what you are? Aren't you just single?

ImSoNotTelling · 05/11/2009 21:50

she sounds like a right meany.

You are right in that the image of a spinster does not include cheery ankle-biters all over the shop

Is she the same age as you? Um she's the spinster. While you are not only not a spinster, you are also posh, I hear

YANBU why do you see her?

BoneYard · 05/11/2009 21:51

Is Bachelorette a patch you stick on your arm that smells of unwashed socks and snores at night....to let you know what you're missing?

ROFL at NoBiggy

Rindercella · 05/11/2009 21:52

Spinster? Nah. Bachelorette? Big fat nay.

Posh Single Mum? Bloody marvellous

postal · 05/11/2009 21:52

a spinster is someone who has never been married

generally an elderly someone

ConnieComplaint · 05/11/2009 21:52

Isn't a spinster a skinny bitter old aunt who never married, has no children and is ver ver rich?

Is that you????

If so, YABU

NoBiggy · 05/11/2009 21:54

SPINSTER OF THIS PARISH!

How you're described when the vicar reads the Banns.

Unless they've adopted bachelorette in the last 25 years.

Rindercella · 05/11/2009 21:55

A spinster is only very rich though Connie as she has no children. She would be a pauper if she was a mother!
