to find Dirtgirlworld a bit disturbing?

It's a new CBeebies programme, which has a really nice 'green' focus, but animation styling that makes me go 'ewwwwwh'

Take a look here: www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/dirtgirlworld/ I suppose it's just one of those things that you either think looks great, or that weirds you out. I'm weirded out

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that my 2yo daughter and I love Dirt Girl! Its refreshing to see something new and exciting on the telly that sends a good message and encourages kids to go outside and get grubby, rather than some of the other mindless drivel that is put out there (like programs such as gigglebiz). Any program that makes kids think about nature and the environment is good in my book. I'm going outside and I'm gonna get grubby!

JiminyCricket · 09/11/2009 17:13

On the BT Vision replay menu they have called it 'Digitalgirlworld'...for some reason

BalloonSlayer · 09/11/2009 17:14

I was going to start this thread!

It seems so "inappropriate," her leering and winking at the camera and singing "I'm grubby, I'm grubby!"

I guess I have a dirty mind but I felt disturbed. < shudders >

cakeywakey · 09/11/2009 22:56

Hi Sashabelle, I really like the message that the programme is trying to send too. I just can't quite get past the freaky-looking animation

DH says that I am a mean old bag for doing down someone's hard work in trying out a new style of animation. (I still don't like it though )

legfingers · 11/11/2009 09:24

There seems to be a link between parents who are "freaked out" by dirtgirlworld's innovative animation, and their kids who act equally peturbed by it. it's certainly new and different, but as my daughter is pretty grounded, she responds well to it. the style is consistent and songs, although not everyone's cup of tea, are ear catching. I love the message, energy and bags of bubblegum vibrancy, I'm sure it'll become a new favourite. you can tell it's had a very high level of craft and precision spent on it. honestly, most of the views on this message board sound like they're written by Victorian parents. it's just a kid's show.

Wolfcub · 11/11/2009 09:44

Yanbu, it's the animation style and the weird faces that she pulls. They often seem totally out of context with the ideas/emotion she is expressing. Agree with others that the message is good but I am totally put off by the faces.

FaintlyMacabre · 11/11/2009 09:47

2 year old DS's verdict (after 10 seconds viewing)- 'I don't like it'.
So far I agree.

Rich44 · 20/11/2009 08:10

our 2 (3 and 1) love dirtgirlworld and as for being "disturbed" by singing gonna get grubby honestly get a life

paranormalghostygoat · 20/11/2009 08:17

I don't like it either, my dc's don't mind it but luckily our tv is breaking and seems to turn itself off before it comes on most days. Nothing to do with me

LilRedWG · 20/11/2009 08:18

Creeps me out a bit too. DD likes it and can't understand why I don't.

LilRedWG · 20/11/2009 08:20

Blimey - just read some of the comment and have to say it only creeps me out in the fact that the animation style is weird. Nothing alse bothers me and the overall message is good.

WingedVictory · 20/11/2009 09:20

I think dirtgirl is meant to be Winona Ryder.

Gigglebiz is Little Britain "for children" (oh, dear).

CaresMildly · 20/11/2009 09:52

Pants - I just started a thread about numberjacks but see everyone is over here talking about CBeebies programming. So ... (launches in)

DirtGirlWorld: I thought it was supposed to be a rip-off of Tank Girl for small children? DirtGirl's face reminds me of Dannii Minogue before the botox started wearing off.

Gigglebiz got to watch just for the theme song, which is then sung throughout the day to keep us cheerful!

But the best of all has to be Yoko Jakamoko Toto. They are cute even with their googly eyes, their theme song is classic and the stories short and smart. My favourite. It's so good it almost makes up for being followed by Waybuloo.

mamadiva · 20/11/2009 09:56

Freaks me out but!

I think it's real faces stretched onto animations.

Would be better if it was just animation.

MayorNaze · 20/11/2009 09:56

i think dirtgirl is odd. the dds (7 & 3) love it.

dd2 is a bit scared of the number taker on number jacks but not as scared as i am

Miggsie · 20/11/2009 10:00

It is dire.

I find it creepy and I really can't work out what age group it is aimed at.

DD hates it, we have to turn the TV off when it comes on...she says Dirtgirl's voice is weird, and the heads are so big they look like they will explode, and that would be good because if they did all explode then it would all be over and we needn't ever see it again.

WingedVictory · 20/11/2009 11:11

Speaking of weird faces, my DS went through a phase ( at 17/18m) of crying when the Piplings of Waybuloo came on. His only discernible comment was "Eye! Eye!" They are all eyes, aren't they? And no noses!

We love Big Barn Farm, Numberjacks and TimmyTime, and DS seems very keen on Nina and the Neurons (maybe he fancies her? he repeats "Nina, Nina" in a very caressing way.). Oddly, he also seems quite taken with I Can Cook. Maybe he fancies Katie, too! What a little Lothario I am raising....

I won't have the Tweenies on, with their horrible, camp voices.

MeAndMyMonkey · 20/11/2009 11:20

DD is now obsessed by Dirtgirlworld - refuses to even watch Gigglebiz now. Fickle child.
It's most odd - she was even hooked on the trailers. I quite like the dancing insects in it though, but the faces creep me out (weird tongue thing going on, especially with Scrapboy)!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 20/11/2009 11:27

Argh, I hate Dirtgirlworld. Grubby the worm (I think it's called Grubby?) annoys me too.

I rather like Nina but can't stand the Numberjacks - sadly, DD loves them which I suppose is a good thing but they drive me mad, especially number 4 (not sure why I'm particularly fixated on him).

Stigulus · 12/12/2009 16:21

why do the voice and face seem so familiar?

Have been trying to find out just who donated the mouth and eyes for Dirtgirl but no luck.

Gigglebiz is awesome. Justin Fletcher is a GOD in our house when ever he comes on the TV our 4 year old is hypnotised. I for one would love to see what he can do given licence into the more mainstream audiences (adult television)(no... not THAT kind of adult TV) and as for the honking boobies... if you have ever been to panto (which is what the boob honking character is based on... A Panto Dame) then it is all in context and not in the slightest bit offensive.

pollyblue · 12/12/2009 21:15

I wasn't sure what to make of it - did think face was a bit creepy but really got the heebie jeebies today when i sat and watched it closely for a bit and realised that the only part of dirtgirl and the boy that are animated are the faces (except eyes and mouth) - if you look closely at the bodies they are people in costume. There were a couple of close up hands, feet and dancing shots where it was obvious. The combination of that, the twitchy mouth and the swollen drawn-on head made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

lovechoc · 12/12/2009 21:21

I really cannot stand this programme and DH feels the same! It is truly awful. I don't like how the eyes move about, very creepy. And the mouth! DH thinks her face is familiar though and can't put his finger on who she is...

Needless to say DS loves dirtgirlworld so we have to have it on occasionally just to pacify him.

ijustwanttoaskaquestion · 12/12/2009 22:23

im going to go against the grain, i love it!! but i do not waht you mean about dirtgirl, she is a bit sexual isnt she. DD loves it though - DP thinks its very odd

Cant be worse than nightgarden though

prettyfly1 · 12/12/2009 22:56

I kinda like it - and I love the fact that the girls drive tractors and are interested in somethign other than frou frou girly nonsense.
