to think that if you find a dirty great hair in your burger they should refund you for the whole bill, not just that burger?

They tried to refund DH for just the burger,

He had to argue the toss for 10 mins before they agreed to refund the whole bill, we brought all the food back to them mostly untouched - so it shows we weren't out for a free meal!!

Oh don't be so ridiculous. Unless you want your food put together by robots (hairless obviously), you are very occasionally going to find the odd 'mistake'. It isn't going to kill you. How can you deal with poo, vomit, snot and the other secretions/excretions of childhood and 'feel sick' at a hair? Fine to get the burger changed, but the whole meal refunded?

No, big corporation, policy should be very generous.

Local restaurant, quality food, just the one meal changed or refunded.

But we returned all the food untouched so how could we be after a free meal, when all of us just had a bite of something then turned green?!

I've worked in a restuarant where somebody planted glass in their spag bol, got their whole meal refunded, plus vouchers but what they didn't realise is that the whole kitchen has to be closed down and a contract cleaning company brought in, all the staff were sent home unpaid, lost tips etc all for the sake of a £6.00 meal.
I would be very cynical if you brought me a burger with a hair in it and probably just have got you a fresh one.

Milly, if it were something as severe as glass in the food, then yes, it is worst case scenario, but a hair in a burger is not sufficient for the restaurant to close and be thoroughly cleaned.

but for a hair, they would normally refund the burger and give you all a free drink.
if you escalate the complaint as OP did, then yes, they would refund the whole meal.
but obviously they want to avoid that (less for the money and more for the bad publicity)

If I were out with someone, or a group of people and they found something unsavoury in their food, or even if their meal was inedible for whatever reason, I would want a full refund.

Obviously, they wouldn't want to eat there, so what am I going to do? Sit there and eat my meal with friend watching, then go watch her whilst she eats somewhere else ot both of us eating in a different resturant at the same time!

I don't think yabu, if I found someone else's hair in my food, I would struggle not to vomit! I gag if my hair goes in my mouth and mine is washed everyday!!!

YANBU, I ordered macaroni cheese in a restaurant a while back, very nice it was, until I got to the bottom of the dish and found a hair lying in it, black so definitely not mine! Also, I was out for coffee with a friend when she noticed a lipstick mark on her mug that also wasn't hers, yuck!!

YABU I wouldn't expect a full refund, just a refund for the burger or a changed one.

I once found a 'hair' (that honestly looked like a pube) in my pasta dish at ASK. The manager tried to tell me it was a 'mushroom hair' (WTF?!?!?) but did refund me the dish and gave me a free pudding which was sufficient. I wouldn't have demanded a refund for the entire meal??

i got my meal taken off the bill and a free bottle of wine

it was only YOUR burger that was unediable not the rest of the familys food so their meal shouldnt be free
