I have said on a couple of loosing wieght threads that i am skinny. I am aware how skinny i am. I know i need to put on weight and I am trying to.

AIBU to be annoyed that people are happy to point out how skinny i am and that i need to put on weight but would never point out a fat persons weight?

'Hi BH. My WORD you are skinny. You need to put on some weight. Nothing but skin and bones!'

yet you would never hear someone say:

'Hi [enter name here], Wow you have got fat! Diet time I think. wobble wobble...'

It is just as insulting and embarrassing.

So AIBU?

(I am WAY too skinny btw not just a slim person)

No you are not aibu,I swear that one day when a certain relation remarks how skinny I am,I am going to say how fat she is.

YANBU! I have always had the same problem. At my lightest weight and thinnest, I was being harrased every time I went to the doctors. They had done blood tests and couldn't find anything wrong so therefore I of course had to have an eating disorder!

I understand that they have to be cautious but I didn't have an eating disorder and just felt very stressed out about it all to the point where I'm sure the stress was making me lose more weight!

Always get comments from family and people I don't know so well telling me how skinny I am and don't I think I should lose weight. It properly winds me up!

nula · 01/11/2009 10:22

BH YANBU but there are tactlesss people out there who do indeed say similar to fat people .

I have been on the receiving end of such comments many times

BrokkenHarted · 01/11/2009 10:25

That is not nice nula
It is when it is larger people that say it to me that annoys me most. I am sure they gets comments so why do the same to others

It's the same if you're tall. People can be bloody rude about it "You're how tall? Really? Can you get clothes to fit you? (and in years gone by) Do you have trouble getting a boyfriend?"

But if you pick them up on it, it's all...

"No! You should be proud to be so tall! It's a good thing! You shouldn't be so sensitive"

Danthe4th · 01/11/2009 10:40

Its only jealousy, I'm neither not fat or thin but I know given the choice I would rather be underweight than over.

I have lost weight recently. Its not an eating disorder or anything i am just rubbish at getting around to eating. too busy feeding DS.

So my parents and hubby i dont mind saying so but i think it is so rude foe anyone else to.

YANBU I'm not super skinny but thinner than most (well i was til I had DS). I found it rude that people would comment on my size.

I also got annoyed when people commented on the size of my bump when I was pregnant. my FIL told me I looked neat and not fat like many. Others would say I looked small (thus making me think I had not grown a big enough baby). Cheek of them all

TanteRoseFromTheDead · 01/11/2009 13:23

YANBU! "Ooh, have you lost weight AGAIN? There'll be nothing left of you...."

FFS, can they not just say "Hi, lovely to see you!"

I feel your pain....

disillusionedmum · 01/11/2009 13:30

hi, i get the same treatmnet although i am NOT skinny really. I hate whatpeople say to me too it cause it makes you feel like it's your fault or that you should do something about it. My problem is that my face looks it more than anything else but that is only actually because i am so tired and stressed out from my kids
so look..if you feel ok..if your not unwell and certainly if you are not worried then remember nothing you do or look will ever really please others..they will always find one thing or another! you are either too fat or too thin!

Earlybird · 01/11/2009 13:39

Have you got noticeably/dramatically thinner, or have you always been skinny? Is it possible people ask/comment because they think perhaps you have been/are ill and they are concerned? Maybe come up with a stock light-hearted statement that acknowledges their comment, but also doesn't open the door for discussion.

I don't have your issue with weight (tend in the opposite direction actually!), but would imagine it is not intended to be rude or hurtful. I'd put it in the same category as the constant comments (random observations) I hear from most everyone about dd (she's so tall, she's shooting up, my hasn't she grown, she's going to be a tall adult, etc).

BrokkenHarted · 01/11/2009 16:37

No EB it is not dramatic and i have always been skinny.

I think it is the point though. Like i say it isnt just friends or family. its anyone. That's what i mean. You would near be so rude to a fat person!
