oooo Moondog - can I borrow your car (I won't drive it honest ) when my parents visit - I like the sound of sitting swigging V8 and all that shit

Lonicera · 30/10/2009 21:31

It's not only one day if they live hundreds of miles away

honie · 30/10/2009 21:31

My IL's dont want to come over. I think they are great people and they would be more than welcome, I'm 100% positive they would rather spend the day at their daughters house, or their own - drinking wine and eating good food without feeling they need to mind manners etc.

I think you are pushing your opinion onto everyone, maybe try asking people why, what etc before telling us what we should be doing.

moondog · 30/10/2009 21:31

One of my grandmother's friends (called Ethel, you will not be surprised to hear) once said
'Ooh, a car is like a little house on wheels isn't it?'

I am inclined to agree.

Very good SM.

crankytwanky · 02/11/2009 19:08

I wan't a christmas at home without ILs or parents because TBH I am far too tired/skint/pregnant to have people over for a week.

I had my family over last week. They drank four bottles of wine and ate, amongst other things, amonths worth of cheese.(Yes, we buy direct from the suppliers. This bit was as big as a keyboard.)
They stayed ONE NIGHT!
I can't maintain that level of hospitality.

DH & I will be working that week too. We don't want to have to fight for the shower. I will be nearly 7 months pg. I don't want to cook dinner on my own every night for sqillions of people.

And my family have no hand in raising our DC.

lovechoc · 02/11/2009 19:34

some people just want the day to themselves because it's too stressful hosting a dinner for relatives. you have to be at their beck and call - in what way is this relaxing for the host/hostess????

no thanks, i'd rather they visit for a short while then leave, or see them the day before or after.

As for the school part, I wouldn't be offended if MIL couldn't make it to a play. As long as the parents/guardians see it, that's all that matters.
