To think overnight notice is not good enough...

Overnight notice that the school is having non-uniform day tomorrow that is.

OK, so they can wear anything, including their Halloween costumes.

I didn't buy DD a new one, as she's only wearing it for trick or treating round the street, when it will be dark, with her wellies to hide that it's a bit short in the leg.

Now, I have no alternative, and she is gutted that she has to wear a too small costume, or no costume for school.

I have no alternative, I can't do anything about it now, it's far too late.

DD is upset, I am pissed off and annoyed at school.

This kind of thing annoys me too. The teachers don't suddenly decide at 10 minutes before home time that all children should wear fancy dress the following day. No excuse for not giving more notice.

Our previous school was exactly like this but thankfully current school seems to give plenty of notice.

Yes, of course they can go in anything, but they'll want to go in Hallowe'en stuff.

I have no problem with that, I'd have bought DD a new costume, if I'd been warned.

Poor DD has to wear her normal clothes, or her too small costume from last year.

I have also sent a stinking letter to School.

Maybe they did it on purpose so that parents were not put under pressure to go out and buy new costumes - look on the bright side they have in fact saved you money. YANBU for being annoyed but writing to the school is a bit OTT IMO

I took the note back this morning.
I am still pissed off, but didn't want to embarrass DD.

Yes, they can wear anything but that includes costumes, and of course DD wanted a costume, and I had no time to buy her one that fits well. She has worn her old one, but I felt for her when some of the other kids will have new ones.

The letter sent home yesterday actually says that the decision was made last minute because parents and children have asked for it. I understand this, I'd have asked for it too as DD loves wearing her costume (when it fits) but since the decision wasn't made a week ago, then tough, it's not fair to spring it on parents.

The letter also states 'we look forward to seeing some spooky and colourful outfits', so clearly wanting costumes, rather than just non-uniform.
