Toiy free lounge, cruel or not

I am totally fed upo with the state of my lounge, and dd's now play in their rooms quite a bit, so I am moving all the toys up to their bedrooms, is that really mean?

mine are 5 and 9 and i have just started this too. they both have their own rooms so i wont let them play down here. they still do their craft type stuff down here though...cannot imagine the sort of mess it'd be upstairs otherwise

Depends on age of children, the smaller ones will tend to want to play near you I think. We have a toy free lounge, but we do have a conservatory type room just off the lounge that the children have toys in and they play in there quite a bit. They don't always want to play in their room, I think they like having adults nearby. But I don't think it's mean - as a child I was never allowed toys downstairs at all, once past toddler age anyway. DH says the same.

that was my theory, we have a cupboard full of games and jigsaws and a couple of shelfs of craft stuff, they can stay. but we have 2 small pink table which have always had all there crap piled under them, I thought they couold have 1 table each in their room and all the toys can go up there. feels a bit mean though.

If they are already happy playing in their rooms, no prob! I agree with Mamazon, it does depend a lot on the age of the child; DS is almost 7 and quite happy to disappear into his room, but DD at 5 still likes to play near us (unless she has a friend over).

Not mean at all! My DS doesnt have any toys in the lounge but we live in a flat so its easy for him to drag whatever he wants to play with from room to room and then when its tidied away it all goes back into his pigsty bedroom.

not really mean but a bit mad. the more toys in the bedroom the greater potential distraction from sleep!

no trouble with sleep. they are 3.5 and 6, and seem to prefer to play in their rooms when together, whenb it is just dd2 and me she plays in the lounge but we can bring stuff down for that.

My sitting room is a playroom but that is because i live in a small terrace and my boys share a tiny room. They are under 4 at the moment but unless we are able to move my sitting room will remain the playroom. I don't mind too much and thing it is nice to be around my kids while they play. I dare say I will change my mind when they are older!

I think it is a bit. I have tons of toys in my living room, which drive me crazy, every now and then I move a load downstairs but always keep a few boxes for them to play with. I don't want them to feel that they are not welcome in every room of their home.
