AIBU to think its disgusting to clean the bathroom with the same cloth that's been down the loo....??!

Just found dear enthusiastic DH cleaning the bathroom (he had done two and was on the third - not a big house but we have got lots of bathrooms). Anyway I commented when I saw him scrub the inside of the loo - UNDER the water line - and then bring the cloth outside to clean the outside of the loo bowl. I then asked if he used a different cloth for the other bathrooms. Turns out he had used one little sponge cloth for all three bathrooms, all three have been subjected to the scrubbing down the loo treatment and then he takes the cloth to the next bathroom, wipes down the sides where our toothbrushes sit, does the bath, and then repeats with the loo procedure!

Three loos, one cloth, three sets of bathroom sides, floors and baths now covered in poo germs!

Am I the only person who thinks this gross, and uses seperate cloths, loo brushes or bits of loo roll to clean the loo and a cloth kept seperately for the sides?

He thinks I am being mean and not appreciating the brilliant job he has done with the sparkly bathrooms! I feel slightly sick.

What do you people eat that necessitates all that scrubbing below the water line any way?

LevitatingCopy · 25/10/2009 22:29

Don't use any cloths AT ALL in the house as I hate manky wet cloths hanging about - have a washing up sponge for washing up, and Dettox wipes / kitchen roll for surfaces.

Since DD has started potty training I've become unnaturally obsessed by loo cleaning - she has no qualms about giving it a good old hug while she climbs aboard - yuk.

My bog cleaning method is to take a Dettox wipe - start at the flush, work down to the seat, then under the seat and round top of porcelain, then round the sides. Then do the same with a sheet of kitchen paper to mop up the Dettox dampness (and hopefully germs).

I couldn't contemplate sticking my hand, gloved or otherwise, anywhere near the bog water, so toilet brush it is. The bath and sink have their own scoury sponge thing.

Its the very hard water that stains the loo with limescale that necessitates scrubbing below the water line. Plus I dont use bleach and prefer a quick scrub

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 25/10/2009 22:41

Where do people put these cloths? The thoughts of unwashed cloths hanging around is grim.

I use old clothes of DDs that can't be passed on, cut up into rags, then chuck them after they've done the rounds of the bathrooms - and finally the loos.

Kitchen cloths are "proper" cloths.

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 25/10/2009 22:43

I mean I use the bathroom cloths once only. And I open the bin with my elbow to chuck the cloth in .

No cross contamination here.

(Am currently suffering with some horrible sickness )

all my unwashed cloths go in a plastic container near the washing machine (kept specifically for this purpose - that sounds a bit sad really!). they don't hang about for long - i wash cloths, towels and bedding at 60 so there is a 60 wash on most days.

I take washing up sponges out of dh's hand when I catch him using them to wipe down surfaces & chuck them in a box under the sink.

Because dh can't get his head round it not being a great idea to mop the skanky bit under the wine rack, with the dead flies, then lob sponge back in bowl for next lot of washing up, I usually have an ample supply of de-commissioned sponges, which I then use to clean each bathroom.

There's 3 bathrooms - house previously in multiple occupancy - so last job in each one is to clean below water line, then chuck the sponge in the bin.

Loo brushes, yuk. Dh has a ghastly fondness for them. I'd rather just scrub the skidmarks properly once a week, than transfer them to a festering brush.

If I could train dh out of scuzzing the washing up sponges, I'd use old cloths instead. I'd vaguely wondered who on earth buys disposable wipes for cleaning!

picmaestress · 25/10/2009 23:39

I wouldn't dream of having a loo brush, and none of my close friends have them either. I think we might all be a bit OCD

I would freak if I found someone using the same cloth on loo insides and the sink. And very possibly vomit.

Mummee · 25/10/2009 23:51

It is rather disgusting, but I gather not the first time he has cleaned? Therefore if it didn't kill you then it won't now lol. It only kills you because you know it and have seen it. If you're like me it will stay in your mind all the time.

Anyway I suggest taking matters into your own hands. That's what I did after I found cleaning water being poured down the kitchen sink.

YES EURGH!!!

Mummee · 26/10/2009 00:01

PS LOL I think it's cruel not to have loo brushes. I hate going into a toilet with skid and think it's rather mortifying to leave a host's toilet with skid. Unless you never have people overr and they never use loo.

OrmIrian · 26/10/2009 08:13

Brush? No. We have one but I don't think it's ever been used Just bleach and if need be loo roll to wipe. I expect the bleach to deal with the underwater zone.

I am the disposable wipe queen, I love them Has to be Dettox though, the Flash type ones are way too chemically and vile.

However in planet mitigation, I only do 60 degree washes about once a week (for bedding only). No manky cloths to wash, and towels go in with clothes at 40 degrees.

LevitatingCopy · 26/10/2009 09:11

Oh but did I see someone mention Method wipes further down? That would be great, I love their bog cleaner.

Doodleydoo · 26/10/2009 09:19

Think I might be sick...... won't be letting DH near the bathroom as have a paddy when he tries to wipe dd's face with the cloth for wiping kitchen surfaces. (Which he has usually tried to clean something skanky from the floor with first..need I say more?)

Although for a tip I did buy one of those disposable duck loo brush things which I find slightly more pleasant than the loo brush. They just gross me out..
