AIBU to think its disgusting to clean the bathroom with the same cloth that's been down the loo....??!

Just found dear enthusiastic DH cleaning the bathroom (he had done two and was on the third - not a big house but we have got lots of bathrooms). Anyway I commented when I saw him scrub the inside of the loo - UNDER the water line - and then bring the cloth outside to clean the outside of the loo bowl. I then asked if he used a different cloth for the other bathrooms. Turns out he had used one little sponge cloth for all three bathrooms, all three have been subjected to the scrubbing down the loo treatment and then he takes the cloth to the next bathroom, wipes down the sides where our toothbrushes sit, does the bath, and then repeats with the loo procedure!

Three loos, one cloth, three sets of bathroom sides, floors and baths now covered in poo germs!

Am I the only person who thinks this gross, and uses seperate cloths, loo brushes or bits of loo roll to clean the loo and a cloth kept seperately for the sides?

He thinks I am being mean and not appreciating the brilliant job he has done with the sparkly bathrooms! I feel slightly sick.

Sorry I understand. Was a bit confused because I use disposable duck thingies for the inside and under the waterline (followed by bleach). Then a cloth for the outside.

onepieceoflollipop · 24/10/2009 13:37

Squis are you literally just wiping round the inside of the loo bowls with the same cloth, if so that's fine.

If not, and you are cleaning all parts of the loo, you risk (imo) spreading germs round the seats, handles etc if you then continue with the same cloth.

onepieceoflollipop · 24/10/2009 13:38

aaah x-posts.

We'll let you off then!

diddl · 24/10/2009 13:40

Well, I kind of think you´re over reacting.

We have a brush that anyone who leaves "visible remains" uses to clean and most nights toilet cleaner is used.

I though this was a fairly standard thing to do, so although I don´t use a cloth in the bowl, I wouldn´t be horrified, as I don´t consider it to be full of "poo germs"

BrokkenHarted · 24/10/2009 13:40

It is not great to normally do. Just say to him that in future if he could use a diff cloth for inside loo that would be great and say no more about his time. When you go to the loo next rewipe the sink and dont let him know you've done it.

NormaSknockers · 24/10/2009 13:43

I'd just be grateful that DH was trying to help & actually attempted cleaning something, I'm not sure my DH even knows that toilets need cleaning I think he assumes the magic pixies come out at night & do them!

Squishabelle · 24/10/2009 13:43

Urggggghhhhhh - toilet brushes - urggggghhh!
I hate them sooooo much that the mere sight of one makes me want to vomit. I can only just about stand the sight of the duck thing.

newpup · 24/10/2009 13:45

I have 4 bathrooms and have separate loo brushes in each. I use a separate cloth for the loos and another for the baths/showers/sinks etc.

Urrrggggh to using a cloth in the loo and then on the sink!

But wow for a DH cleaning the bathrooms!!

Meglet · 24/10/2009 13:57

Yanbu!! I use dettol wipes for the loo and cloths for the rest of the bathroom. Another one who is at 3 loo's.

pofacedandproud · 24/10/2009 14:01

I HATE TOILET BRUSHES. Dear God, they are rank. I use dettol wipes for loo too.

deaddei · 24/10/2009 14:35

I will gladly have your dh to my house for a personal one to one tutoring on how to clean 3 bathrooms- then he can practice on my 3.
I have spent 2 hours today cleaning the damn things...the smell of wee under the seat in the children's made me want to heave. I whizz round them every other day, but this was gross.

Conundrumish · 24/10/2009 14:53

I just don't get this attitude 'I'd just be grateful that DH was trying to help' - I don't see why intelligent men should claim ignorance over such things.

I once say a cleaner at work use a mop to clean around the loos (so where feet, drips, dropped tampons etc had been) and then use same mop to clean basins. Basins where I had seen some members of staff fill them full and then wash their face!

I use a cloth to clean floors then soak that in bleach at the end and cheap loo roll and bleach/disinfectant to do the loo sides, seat etc. Not very environmentally friendly I know .

memorylapse · 24/10/2009 15:00

YANBU-I would make him clean the bathrooms again minus the loos with a clean cloth and lots of anti bacterial cleaner

as for loo brushes..they are the most revolting thing known to man

shockers · 24/10/2009 15:03

Yeugh!

drinkyourmilk · 24/10/2009 15:15

question - if you don't use a loo brush to get rid of visable remains then how do you do it? What do your guests do if they need to clean? I'd be mortified if i had to go at a friends house and needed to clean the bowl but could only stick hands in with loo roll!

Just curious (I'm a brush user, but steep it in disinfectant a couple of times a week), I see the disgusting side of using a brush and would love a viable alternative.

pigletmania · 24/10/2009 15:22

YANBU, i have a separate cloth for the bathroom and one for the loo that never come in contact with each other. I do use the loo cloth to clean on the outside of the bowl though then put it back behind the loo. After a short while i throw both cloths away and replace them with new ones.

pigletmania · 24/10/2009 15:24

oh i have a seperate clothe for the loo seats, handles though too. All colour coded

memorylapse · 24/10/2009 15:24

drinkyourmilk..I use one of those toilet duck things with the disposable ends..I dont have to worry about guests not being able to clean the loo as we live in the middle of nowhere and no one visits us

VengefulSinner · 24/10/2009 15:27

I am the same Memory - I also have a Toilet Duck thing. It's great!

drlove8 · 24/10/2009 15:45

eeeuuuuggghh eeeewwwww . dh would get a severe earbashing if he did that .
dont use cloths here . use steam cleaner !!!
steam clean the door , the light pull, the sink ,the tiles ,the bath , the loo handle. loo seat, outside of the loo , the floor ,then i scrub the bog inside with one off those flush-brush thingies , and then bleach bleach bleach! .
disinfectant bathroom cabenet every day and milton tooth brushes& holders once a week.
tis the bacteria

thesouthsbelle · 24/10/2009 16:00

eww, I scrub the loo then that whole thing rubber gloves, and cloth go straight in the bin, then fresh comes out. and for the loo seat/outside etc I use those flushable wipes.

pooexplosions · 24/10/2009 16:32

I also have 3 loos, but only 2 bedrooms and a extremely small house. Think the builder was obsessed with toilets!

YANBU. I have pretty low standards but thats rank.

Well, if there wasn´t a brush, tbh, I´d be cleaning everyones sh!t, which I refuse to do!

agedknees · 24/10/2009 17:52

Have just read this out to my dh, and he thinks there is nothing wrong in using one cloth for sinks, loo etc. Now I remember why I clean the bathrooms!!!!

To the OP. YANBU. Suggest you use your dh's toothbrush to clean the loo for a few days to teach him a lesson.
