To want to scream from the hills Nitty Gritty combs and conditioner do NOT eradicate nits!!!!!!!!

I have yet to meet anybody who thinks otherwise and I'm sick of letters/GPs fobbing me off with the supposed miracle cure of "teatree conditioner and a Nitty Gritty comb".

I have combed and conditioned every which way every person in the house, it does NOT work. You miss one the side of a pinhead it lays masses of eggs and voila!!!! The only thing I've found to work is Hedrin on everybody in the house then repeating a week later. At £10 a bottle X 5 it's £££££££ but at least it works.

Was wondering if anybody has tried vinegar,was thinking the acid must be able to kill nits instantly. DP thinks I'm bats but I'll try anything if it means I don't have to go through the nightly screamfest of combing dd's waist length wavy hair with a Nitty Gritty comb-when it doesn't work anyway.

YABU.
It does work so ner. and hedrin doesn't so ner again.

Sorry, Nitty Gritty plus tea tree works for us. So personally, YABU.

My nitty gritty comb was the best thing i have bought since having children!!

what about children with afro or mixed race hair? Have you ever tried getting one of those bloody combs through it? All the adverts for this type of treatment feature children with European hair.

Its not just nitty gritty, its all of them.

My poor DD endured years of bloody nit treatments throughout primary school. Those bloody combs ripped her hair to bits.

YANBU. I agree with you totally. My head is itching despite spending an hour combing through it earlier. DD has very very curly hair and combed through for 2 hours yesterday but she just said she's still itching. Off to buy Full Marks tomorrow (find it works best).

And no I don't want to cut her beautiful hair short. She has it tied back with a hairband at school. There's a problem with nits in her class. I helped out in the classroom and I could see the headlice crawling around on a few heads. Tactfully told the mum's and helped out a week later. Same kids still had it. Drives me insane. Fucking selfish.

combing with conditioner absolutely does work

You have to do it evry couple of days for a fortnight though

Nitty Gritty works here too but I usually do a blast of some chemcial or hedrin type stuff if they are infested and then comb every 3rd day for a couple of weeks until all the eggs and hatchlings are out.

I haven't tried Nitty Gritty - that was plan B.

DS came home with lice last week and kindly passed them on to me and DD, I used some oily chemical stuff from Boots, can't remember the name and then spent the next two days wet combing his hair using Voseene(sp) nit repellent spray and comb again when he comes out of preschool. I THINK I've got them all. Haven't seen a louse or nit for 3 days now.

Not a pleasant experience.

I gave up completely on chemicals. Comb and conditioner were much better and worked!

Conditioner and a 30p cheapo white plastic nit comb works great. Hair checked every other night, and every night when th monsters are at large.

I have just bought a nitty gritty, and it's not as good as I had hoped. Using a white plastic comb you can see the little wrigglers and their eggs, so can squish them and dispose of them with quite a sense of satisfaction. With a nitty gritty comb I can never see the wrigglers or eggs, so am at a loss as to how well it works or where the little blighters are getting to.

ive got a robi comb but dd hair is too thick to use it now !!

My kids are mixed race and bloody hell every time they get nits i despair. I've wasted a fortune on products and currently hedrin is the one which is winning at the moment.

YABU, nitty gritty and conditioner works fine for me ( but my DD has blonde hair so they are very easy to see)

DD started school last week, 2nd day and she got the 'someone in the class' nits letter

Oh bugger says I, oh don't worry about it says the other parents they get them all the time, just ignore it

hehe just checking in as a Smug Mum of Boy with Crewcut. We just run him through the sheepdip when home .

wriggle the nitty gritty works by getting the eggs & teeny new hatchlings out as well as the adult lice so irradicts the cycle quicker.

The only cure I have found is olive oil - at 31 per bottle which will do two to three treatments it is far cheaper and none chemical.

It works here too. Every 3rd day for a fortnight, then twice a week.

Interesting Maleeka Hedrin is the only thing to work for us too but sadly can't afford it. It's pesticide free isn't it,suffocates instead of poisoning. I'm wondering if the NG comb just isn't suitable for non straight hair.

DD has wavy/curly hair it's beautiful and there is no way I'm cutting it. We'd both be traumatised!!!!!!! Also I always treat nits then get them back so why should we cut it?

So I'm open to advice. I've NGed all of us nightly for 2 weeks(no mean feat)what are we doing wrong.?It doesn't work even on the boys who also have longish hair but it's straight.

We even have 2 combs and dp and I both do it rinsing them in boiling water repeatedly. I'm starting to wonder if we have a master race of nits down here in Devon.
