To get SO irritated by the poor design of baby clothes...

Why do so many newborn sleepsuits have press studs up the back? I had three as gifts for my PFB, awkward to put on and surely not comfortable for babies that spend the majority of their time lying on their backs?

And sleep suits with buttons instead of press studs? I had two beautiful knitted suits as gift but have barely used them as trying to do up the crotch buttons is a nightmare.

And jumpers with teeny, tiny, teeny buttons on the neck?

Will be SO much wiser in gify buying and shopping for my next one!

lol - my last two lived in front buttoning sleepsuits and cardigans, I hate the neck buttons too and they are even worse in toddlers because the wriggle away and shout

And I forgot, blardy hoods. Why can I not buy a jumper for my baby boy without a hood on it?!

I'm buying playsuits and evelope neck vests only from now on.

And why do baby socks have the rubber grippy stuff on? They won't be walking on any laminate flooring any time soon.

Me personally hate winding small babies if they have a hood that the baby cant put up anyway so is just for fashion grr.

I tend to undo the neck buttons and leave them undone.

Hi CornishKK, Some babies sleep on their fronts - especially in the US where parents are advised to put them down on their tummies, so maybe they're american?

So YABU sleep suits with buttons on the back should not be outlawed globally,
BUT I agree, here where babies are on their backs in the cot, it is absolutely infuriating to have to turn them over and wake them up more, if they need a nappy change etc. and those fiddly faddly features, buttons, bows and nylon trimmings, which in the main, scratch and catch, are major-ally annoying.

FWIW, I used to cry at the design of practically everything when DD was tiny, as I just couldn't see how anyone could be so 'effin stoooopid to have non adjustable buggy handles heights, and babygro bags which didn't have the zip in the 'right' place, and undoing the right way.

Looking back, I think I needed a chill pill (or two) and some decent sleep (a lot of this).

Hence why all mine live in envelope neck vests and sleepsuits as long as i can get away with it. DS3 is 10 mo and as he is learning to crawl is still in them as seem to be more compatible with such activities than seperates.

You can find some nice bright interesting ones if you shop around.

I'm wising up fairly quickly with the shopping - have had a delivery from Blooming Marvellous and Rainbow Brights but any other recommendations would be gratefully recieved.

Zazen - thanks for the congrats, I'm fine I just enjoy a Monday morning rant . I'm officially a grumpy, old woman.

Bonds Wondersuits are the only ones I have come across that were clearly designed by a Mum with a small baby. LOVE them - hard to come across in UK though.

I really liked the Gap sleepsuits. The design around the crotch is different so they actually fit all the way up the leg rather than being penguin-style from knee to knee. Got given a couple, and I will definitely be buying some next time around.

Wow, I didn't know that US advice was to sleep babies on thier front! I thought back sleeping was one of those rare univerally agreed pieces of advice. Well there you go.

Ds was kindly gifted a shirt tie and tank top outfit, AND they found it in prem aswell!

He would have looked dashing in his incubator, non?

I must be in a minority - I absolutely HATE envelope neck vests. They seem to get wider with every wash, until they are wider then DD's shoulders and so slip off, and they are a complete pain to iron.
Sleeveless vests all the way for me, or failing that, ones with poppers on the shoulder instead.

I was also given a little outfit with a shirt and tie for my newborn ds!

But get this - mine has a bow tie, no less, and came with a proper dress shirt, waistcoat and proper trousers, complete with belt loops! For a newborn!! The kind of thing an adult might wear as a bridegroom...

Needless to say, ds is now 2 and a half and the suit is still in pristine condition, packed away in a box somewhere...

FYI US parents are advised to put babies to sleep on their back. Advice almost exactly the same as the UK actually! Never saw sleepsuits with buttons up the back until I came to the UK!

Teehee at the shirt/tie combos for newborns, FFS!! I hope it came with matching dress shoes?

One of my Oz friends did send us a gorgeous little Bonds suit but it was never warm enough for DS to wear it.

Non-lined jeans annoy me too. And dungarees covered in metal clasps or buttons.

DP dressed dd in a lovely dress today, she looked so sweet, then at nap time was tossing and turning, we then realised it was the 12 buttons running down her back!!!! Why, i have no idea, they dont even un-do!

and at whoever irons vests!!!

Yanbu. I snapped when I had ds nearly 3 years ago and ended up getting rid of all the sleepy suits with poppers up the back. Have these designers never dressed a.baby? Aren't there any parents in the design dept who might point out what a crap idea it is?

Ds now has some trousers with button up pockets. Why? What is a 2 year old going to put in teeny tiny pockets.

I asked a friend (a nurse) about the pockets and babies thing - she suggested that the pockets are so that they can carry their condoms and cigarettes.

I just wish that I could find anything with arms that didn't need rolling up 3 times. I suspect my DD is longlegged (not extremely so) so can't go down a size but it is causing havoc with the thumb sucking as all that bulk on arms!

The French use back fastenings - don't know why. We got loads sent from French friends for DS1 - never used them as I found them too fiddly - but as DS2 flipped over as soon as you tried to change him, they actually weren't so bad.

I hate the fact that baby clothes usually have ENORMOUS hoods - they can fit everywhere else, but the baby needs a head about three times the size.
