as long as you dd understands that as it is an expensive treat, that is why she is only allowed one friend, I don't see the problem.

Do you in fact have a car large enough to consider taking more? Unless you have a 7 seater, an ordinary family car is suitable for 5 people only.

With the party at the soft play next week, the gaggle of other mums is definately being unreasonable.

No YANBU. You do what suits your circumstances and sod everyone else. Far too ofter these days parents think it is their childs right to go to parties and outings.

DS1 is going out on a birthday trip tomorrow and he is the only one going and quite often DS2 goes out for brthdays and is one of only a couple of kids. The only person I know who gets upset with this is DD2 (twin to DS2) but even she has to put up with it. I`ve made a point of telling all of my kids that they go when they are invited and if not then tough.

You are never going to make everyone happy all of the time. Your DD chose the person she wanted to go with for the simple reason that she would rather share her time with that person. As ever (well a lot of cases)its the parents that cause problems and not the kids. They just learn by a very poor example!

you are not being at all unreasonable. She is lucky to have two special events - one for family one for friends. Albeit she has been able to invite one mate to the family event.

My son wants something for his next birthday that will be quite costly, so he will only be allowed to invite two friends. he has lots of mates so this will be hard, but it will be fine, because as class parents we have always told the children that you can't always invite everybody etc.

The other mum is BVU but you are not. I wouldn't be surprised if she turns up tomorrow and follows you about until you feel guilty about her poor child and invite them to join you! What ridiculous behaviour from a grown woman. She is setting her precious child up for a fall if this is how she is about one little outing!

Hope you and your DD and friend thoroughly enjoy your day - how rude of this other woman! I wouldn't dream of saying something like that! I always let my son take 1 friend, e.g. we went to Longleat last time. Likewise, another mum dropped hints at me but I didn't bother justifying it as you have to draw the line somewhere! I think it's nice for all concerned to have one special friend out for the day. Have a nice time!

So freakmum has told her uninvited daughter that she could go with you and your family? That's not rude, that's insane!

If she has the audacity to say anything to you tomorrow, get the kids out of earshot and say to her firmly:

"There is a whole class party at the soft play next week to which, so far, you are still welcome to attend.

The trip tomorrow is a private family celebration, and I said that DD could invite 1 friend. She did.

You telling your daughter that she could come too and winding her up about it is out-and-out irresponsible and quite frankly CRUEL to your own daughter. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Think about what you do and say to your own poor children before berating me and mine."
