to expect DH to miss his Friday after-work pint to collect DC?

I am starting a new full-time job next month. This will be 9-5, I will be dropping kids off at school in the mornings, & DH collect them. DH works full-time 8-4. Arranging childcare has been a challenge, but nearly there.

Childcare (after school club) is only open until 5pm on a Friday. DH finishes work at 4pm, but likes to go out with colleagues for 2-3 hours on a Friday after finishing. He is refusing to curb this as it is his only night out in the week, and expects me to book a babysitter for 2 hours until I get home, every week, and refuses to give up his social arrangement.

I am usually happy and supportive that he has this chance to mull over the week over a pint or 2, but not at the inconvenience for the rest of the family. So, AIBU to expect him to?

No, YANBU.

We all have to give things up for our children, and drinks after work is one of those (fondly remembers after work drinks in pub and then falling onto last train home)

Could he maybe go once a month and you could book a babysitter then?

I´d at least expect him to offer to go every other week.

What time do you get in?

YANBU. Going out to the pub is a treat not a right. He should be there for his children. Can he not wait until you get home and then join them later?

I think a compromise would be good as others have suggested, maybe he could go every other week, and for those weeks he does go out with his mate, HE can book a babysitter!

Thanks for the replies. I expect to get in by 6pm at the latest . I'm hoping to see if I can finish earlier on a Friday anyway if I can work though lunches, but need to be in the job before I can ask that really.

There you are running about getting everyone sorted and now working etc, it's not like you are asking him to take time off, just pick them up.

He could go back out after you get back in couldn't he?

I agree with Whostolemyname. If your dh wants to go out then he should be the one to arrange a babysitter.

Do you get a night out every week too?
