To think that modern life is rubbish?

For example:

the dinner lady debacle: does any sane person think she was in the wrong?

ditto: (and I haven't read any threads on this so have no MN taints) the not really childminding police officers.

Ditto: just about anything else you come across in life.

AIBU or really is trying to life a normal life in a sensible way just pas possible, non?

Yes, it would be brilliant to go back to the days when single mothers were put in lunatic asylums, the working class were tantamount to slaves, and children starved on the streets of London.

Just that every day there is some total nonsense. Of course one wouldn't want to go back to the days of workhouses.

And before you start. I meant to say "one" and am not a total pedant.

i think alot of the older generation and ancestors would disagree with you-although i do think it is a fab album btw.

its not modern life,its just life.

I agree in many ways it is rubbish, my gripe is competitive and selfish materialism.

oh, precisely, Jellybeans. I can't bear the crappy corpoate speak: eg - get out of your comfort zone, get "out there", "win business". Like being in business is the bloody Olympics circa BC 5000.

when/if I have the energy, I'll start a thread called "is corporate/south east english/ aspiring middle class life rubbish". A few more categories will cover it.

Sorry Tiger, I must have just missed your thread... have been going to bed way too late cos I keep getting sucked into more and more AINU....

Dinner lady: Well it just beggars belief, i'm so glad that someone has stepped up to fund her, because what those kids did to that little girl was way out of line... and sounds like the school was so horrified by it, it was covered up. If anything like that ever happened to any child I knew, I'd hope the Dinner lady would tell the parents.

The Police women: Wouldn't being a police woman actually have to entail checks in excess of the ones you now have to have to be anything to do with a child? ...

(whispers: ...other than being it's actual mother, although am sure if this shower stay in any longer, they'll get round to addressing that!)

Oh they're also working on that one - I know it's a tedious subject, but the new checks they're planning to bring in for home education make it clear that just being a parent is not acceptable in itself any more, and we're all to be treated as suspects until proved innocent.

The dinner lady told the parents of a child who had been tied up and whipped with a skipping rope by bullies. She was sacked I think, for breaking confidentiality rules.

But no-one else seems to be at any risk of being sacked for not telling the parents what happened to their child.

Modern life is not rubbish. Even despite climate change, global poverty and infant mortality rates etc., I would rather be alive now than 100 years ago. Or at any other time except maybe the 1960s (when I was alive but too young to go to Woodstock or meet the Beatles). And I don't envy my great grandchildren-to-be - I think life 100 years from now will be bloody hard as well.

Ok Well when I was a child I was pushed over by bullies in the playground and knocked unconscious.The school wanted to hush up the incident.They didn't give me any sort of first aid just laid me on a comfy chair and left me to recover.they didn't tell my parents what had happened .later that evening I began vomiting and only by the merest coincidence my mum came across a neighbour who worked at teh school.Othetwise she would have just thought I had a tummy bug and not realised it was as a result of the head injury and taken me to hospital
I think this case is very similar.A terrifying incident like that could have serious psychological repercussions.The parents have to know about it.
