sexist shite or me being precious?

I am a member of a forum that is mostly blokes - www.theroadster.net

there are a small handful of women on it only.

Someone has posted this

I want it removing, but I know from previous experience I will get shouted down by blokes saying it is coz I am jealous, not as pretty, yadda yadda. All the usual lazy, ill-thought out responses really.

Also I know I will get very little to no support from the other women on there, given that a couple of them have already posted that they don't mind it.

am I being precious?

it does make you wonder about men, doesn't it?
(moving in restricted circles as I do)
FWIW I think it's sexist shite and if the moderators want it to be a comfortable place for women they'll get rid of it.

Janos · 24/09/2009 22:16

I understand where you're coming from DP.

But I'm willing to bet women are more exploited against than otherwise in the sex industry.

The particular site linked to by the OP sounds rather sad and seedy. I just can't imagine that's it's anything other than an irritating, tedious job.

Anyway, on that note, I'm off to bed.

daftpunk · 24/09/2009 22:24

yep..i agree with you janos

g'night

I find it quite funny. I gave them various commands and was impressed with "leave" at which all shook their heads.

I'm quite outspoken on sexism but having worked in the technical side of the motor trade in my younger days feel this is nothing in comparison to what I had to put up with in real life. My own view is that this is a bit like television... of you don't like it then don't watch it. Its not as if you are being subjected to it in the workplace and are suffering a lower rate of pay or less than equal opportunity.

However I do see that it would offend some people. I can only say that if it is found to offend the majority it should go, if it doesn't then it should stay. That's democracy.

Arf at MP's requests

daftpunk · 25/09/2009 09:20

i know dittany...but if there wasn't so women prepared to work in pornography there wouldn't be so many men making money out of it.....today, years after the suffragettes there are young girls dying to be topless models/lap dancers....i just don't understand it

GrendelsMum · 25/09/2009 09:33

No, it's fine. I asked them if they were being exploited, and they all shook their heads.

Maybe we should do a Mumsnet version? It could show three ordinary women in a kitchen, responding to requests like 'where are the car keys?'

BunnyLebowski · 25/09/2009 09:33

I don't find it offensive. And I really don't buy the idea of these women as poor downtrodden victims.

The country is full of young girls whose only ambition is to be glamour models/lap dancers. They see Katie Price as someone to look up to and to emulate. They feel empowered by (as they see it) sexually controlling men using their stringy extensions and horrible fake tits. They're encouraged by their (female) friends, work colleagues, mums and aunties.

Are we supposed to believe they're the unwitting victims of the big scary porn making/buying men?

I'd say they're definitely there by their own (albeit misguided) volition.

pofacedandproud · 25/09/2009 10:04

It is quite a new thing though, this notion of empowering yourself through taking your clothes off. It has permeated itself so totally through our culture that it seems almost universally accepted amongst younger generations
Maybe the tide will turn or is turning? I don't know.

hullygully · 25/09/2009 10:08

I think they're marvellous..told them to lie on the car and they sprayed foam over their upper frontals.

hullygully · 25/09/2009 10:09

They won't cook dinner.

hullygully · 25/09/2009 10:10

If you tell them to do the children's homework they sponge each other...Sorry, I know none of this is the point but it's v v amusing.

most men love pornography dittany...i'm afraid that is a fact, men like visual images....i don't understand it..i can't think of anything more boring than watching other people having sex...

still don't get why so many women are working in the porn industry...they can't all come from poor backgrounds, women in england have more options than women in parts of asia...i know we have been on threads together before...and i know i seriously annoy you, but i really dont get feminism sometimes....maybe jordan thinks she's a feminist..you know, out there doing her thing..

daftpunk · 25/09/2009 12:57

ps;

i hate porn.

pofacedandproud · 25/09/2009 13:07

'most men love pornography'
Yes of course and any woman who disagrees is in denial? Gawd it is all so predictable.

daftpunk · 25/09/2009 13:10

pfap...you seem to have a bit of a problem with me....why don't you just let it all out, then we both know where we stand...

i'd rather people were honest with me.

pofacedandproud · 25/09/2009 13:12

Eh? Can't people questions your views then? I disagree with loads of people on here dp actually.
