sexist shite or me being precious?

I am a member of a forum that is mostly blokes - www.theroadster.net

there are a small handful of women on it only.

Someone has posted this

I want it removing, but I know from previous experience I will get shouted down by blokes saying it is coz I am jealous, not as pretty, yadda yadda. All the usual lazy, ill-thought out responses really.

Also I know I will get very little to no support from the other women on there, given that a couple of them have already posted that they don't mind it.

am I being precious?

When I was learning to drive I joined the driving forum on the channel 4 news site (it doesn't exist any more).

It was full of vile, sexist tossers who thought that anybody who believed in speed limits was a lentil munching hippy and any woman who objected to sexism was an ugly feminist.

I worked out the lay of the land in about one minute, made a sharp exit and have never been back since.

Why bother with a crap sexist forum. Any attempt to engage them at all is just giving them a funny feminist to play with. You're making their day.

themoon66 · 24/09/2009 13:51

Morris... they are normally ok. This particular post seems to be a one-off, hence my hesitation to ask for its removal. If it was an every day occurance on there, I would leave sharpish.

Also, the moderators on there are VERY good and will remove things if a good reason is given.

They don't even allow swearing! I think they would faint if they could see a MN Friday night bumsex thread

I didn't click on your link as I'm at work, but if it offends you then ask for it to be removed. Nobody needs to know it was you who complained.

You could also just ignore it though and it'll no doubt vanish down the page pretty quickly.

I got banned from channel 4 news forum once for saying 'David Beckham thinks with his .'

God I hated the moderators on there. One guy hated the moderators so much he set up an alternative, mod free forum, and ended up having to ban people from it as they were so offensive

The net's a funny place innit.

themoon66 · 24/09/2009 13:59

LOL at Morris's David Beckham joke! I made a similar joke on a BBC forum once and got banned for a fortnight!

Good point Dittany.

I find myself irrationally fascinated by the mop in the background...

Tidey · 24/09/2009 15:11

Have you tried typing 'squash'? I know it is sexist crap, but the reult made me laugh

StableButDeluded · 24/09/2009 20:26

I typed in 'drive' and they all walked off and came back with bananas which they proceeded to peel and then nibble suggestively

Janos · 24/09/2009 20:32

I totally agree OP that these sort of sites are obnoxious but I can't help feeling sorry for these girls.

Firstly they get perved on by a bunch of pathetic, sleazy men (tiresome) and then they are patronised and laughed at by a bunch of rude women.

What a really shitty job.

Hope they are well paid!

MrsChemist · 24/09/2009 20:44

I told them to eat a pie and they came back and ate some cherries. They are obviously health conscious young ladies

They gave me the finger when I asked them to clean my house.

ABetaDad · 24/09/2009 20:50

It isn't nice but TBH this sort of thing does happen all over the internet. Fairly regular sexist comments, pictures, jokes, vile language etc on quite serious and well regarded forums and blogs that I go on. Mostly posted by teenagers I suspect.

If it is really prevalent I guess you just have to decide whether to not go to the site and if not then just ignore it and enjoy what is good.

Pah. That link is nothing compared to what they could find on here. The lads would choke (!!) if you directed them to the threads with bumsex, nevergoogledragonbutter and erm (whisper) spacedocking.

(although after actually googling dragonbutter I dare not google spacedocking)

kateGB · 24/09/2009 21:24

I thought it was funny! And quite clever. yes it is rubbish but there are bigger things to worry about.

And why feel sorry for the girls? They all look old enough to have made the decision to get paid to do a job. Yes in 20 years time they may regret seriously that they took jobs like this but at the end of the day...

If men didn't consider women to be objects of desire the world would stuffed.

There are bigger aspects of sexism to get worked up about. This is just men being men..

Dianne35 · 24/09/2009 21:27

Showed it to my hubby who thought it was bizarre and strangely amusing though he questioned the sanity of anyone who thought it was sexy....

dollius · 24/09/2009 21:32

I typed in "stand on your head" and they went off to get bananas. I suppose it was the "head" bit that did it.

It is pretty revolting, but strangely quite amusing as well...

Janos · 24/09/2009 21:35

I seriously can't imagine it's a job anyone wants to do. Merely another way to make money! Just seems these girls have enough to deal with 'answering' their usual customers.

Yeah, that wouldn't surprise me dittany, they'll be raking it in.

Men making money while women are exploited? Money for old rope

daftpunk · 24/09/2009 21:52

it could have been a woman who designed it dittany..

men like pornography..nothing will ever change that...

Janos · 24/09/2009 21:58

No daftpunk but you can bet the men behind it will be making a lot more money than the guys who designed this stuff and employed them. Some things just don't change.

Of course I could be wrong, maybe they have a really strong union and excellent working conditions? One can only hope..

Janos · 24/09/2009 22:00

Urgh that makes no sense whatsoever. Tired.

I meant the men who designed this stuff and employ them will be making a lot more money than the women who take their clothes off.

Yep...that's what I meant to say!

daftpunk · 24/09/2009 22:03

janos...i hate pornography...totally hate it...but it's the women who annoy me the most...they're not all doing it to feed a drug habit..if women didn't agree to it their wouldn't be 70% of the porn we have.
