to mention this to teacher??

My 5 year old DDs came home from school yesterday having been painting in school. they both had paint marks on one arm of their school jumpers (which cost a small fortune and we are only allowed to get from one supplier).

Both told me separately that the same boy had put the paint on their arms on purpose - the teacher had not spotted this happening, and they hadn't mentioned to the teacher.

I am friendly (ish) with his parents, and they are fully aware that he is not always the best behaved little boy. However I do not want to feel like I am telling tales as such in speaking to them.

I would however, like to make sure that this does not happen again, and whilst I understand that kids get messy at school - I am also kind of pissed off when deliberate stuff like this happens.

So - do I mention to teacher or not??

stick them in the washing machine and take a deepth breath - they'll be coming home with plenty more stuff on their jumpers in the years to come - and not all of it as easy to get off as paint.

They are only 5, there is bound to be some paint off target. You could always suggest to the teacher that they wear an apron next time, no need to mention the culprit.

That's what I did always, and you are right, they will (and do often now!) come home plastered in something or other!!

I think what I'm trying to ask is more about the boys behaviour and should I say something about that, rather than the paint on the jumpers (although i do agree that my OP prob doesn't make it clear)

IME very common for little boys (and girls) of 5yrs old to decide to paint other people instead of the paper. If they were older then I'd mention it - but at 5 - no - sounds perfectly normal (if somewhat irritating for others) behaviour.

STC - don't they have painting overalls? You could suggest it as it does keep the paint off.

My Ds is 5 and he does not need anyone's help to muck his tops up!

We went through 18 poloshirt last year!(cheep ones though other wise we'd have been bankrupted! they used to learn to do their writting with permanent markers

I think the apron suggestion is a good one as it might sometimes be difficult to differenciate between a deliberate naughty act or a clumsy one when we talk about 5 year olds.

Now if you are absolutely certain that it was malicious from the other boy and it keeps on happening maybe you should indeed say something to the teaher, if only for your Ds to see that you are taking action.

I'd ask the teacher if she can supply (or can you) smocks as they had such a good time at painting te other day that they came home covered in it and you wonder whether the class had got so excited that they had started painting each other for fun?

I would mention it to the teachers in a way of saying "oh the DDs said X put some paint on their jumper yesterday. Is there any chance they could maybe wear aprons in future as it is quite expensive to replace them especially when you have 2."

That way you are mentioning his behaviour but not directly moaning about him, more the paint on the jumpers.

Aprons or old shirts of yours will usually do the trick, but that's why they wear uniforms IMO because then they can get into that state and only wear them at school.

1 jumper from the supplier only, they do know the uniforms are for kids right?!?!?!?

That's nuts.

My DS's have at least 4 jumpers at any one time, food/paint/mud/football etc etc and I can't do with putting them on to wash every night!
