to be cross with my mum because she plastered my dd1's face with makeup?

My dd1 (Aged7) and ds went to stay at my mums overnight last night and when we went to pick them up my dd had a mass of make up on her face. It was horrible dark purple eyeshadow up to her eyebrows, mascara, blusher and lipstick on that my mum had done for her. She looked like she had been beaten up, just horrible

My mum kept saying oh doesn't she look really pretty now (er no), then she told me that I should let her keep it on because she is growing up fast.

I'm not opposed to a little bit of subtle make up like nail varnish or sparkly eyeshadow but it stays in the house or at a party.

I got really annoyed when my mum kept saying that my daughter looked even prettier with make up, a seven year old does n ot need make up to make her look pretty, now my daughter is going round saying that she is ugly without it when I think she is gorgeous.

I think I've hurt my mums feeling.. I made her tone it down a lot, but she thinks I'm nuts,

Why does a child need make up anyway?

so, aibu?

Hmmm I think you over-reacted, I would have just said "Ooh very nice dear!" and scrubbed it off at bathtime

In the scheme of Things Grandparents Can Do it doesn't seem major

YANBU
I play makeup with DD and she is 4 I let her try things out and she always looks a right mess but think she looks great
I would not let her go out like it and I never would say she is prettier without because she's not.
on your behalf that you DM has put these ideas into her head. make up for play is fine, but it should NEVER be used in the way your DM has

With it not without it - of course
