DP being greedy

Me and DP have set up a grocery budget in which we both pay half each. So, say the weekly budget was £60 ... we pay £30 in each.

Now, whenever we buy fresh orange juice, DP drinks it all. I like to have a glass of it in a morning with my breakfast but there is never any left as DP just drinks it all day constantly. The other week we bought 4 massive cartons of it to last the week and it lasted 2 days.

I have spoken to him about it and he agrees that he is greedy with it and says he'll limit himself to one glass a day but he never does.

SO, last week I went to pour myself a glass and the carton was empty. I was pissed off and so told DP that I would be buying myself a bottle of fresh orange juice out of my own personal money (not the grocery budget) that he wasn't to touch. He said it was petty but agreed that he wouldn't touch it.

Yesterday, I cam home from work, checked the orange juice and half the bottle had gone. He denied that he'd had any, kicked off, got all defensive and finally blurted out "FINE, I'LL BUY YOU ANOTHER FUCKING BOTTLE OF IT AND YOU CAN KEEP IT ALL TO YOURSELF".

NO, my DH is the same. I have just tried to make my dcs cheese on toast forlunch and he's eaten all of the cheese. He has had beans, tuna and cheese on a jacket potato that he took to work. Salads he has anchovies, chicken, pine nuts and goats cheese as well as leaves and tomatoes. My DH actually takes food that is meant for our dcs, at times I woud like to shove the food down his throat myself.

Sounds a bit like a student shared house! It's only a bit of orange juice, annoying when you want some, but still...could you have other underlying probs? If my DH did something like this we'd prob resolve it with a bit more humour.

I couldn't live like this. If you're living as a couple and presumably have a child/children together why can't you just share finances completely and then he can drink as much OJ as he likes and so can you.

YANBU if it's a case of your dp guzzling all the orange juice and you having to traipse out and buy more

YABU in your strange fridge arrangement. As generalunrest said, it sounds like a student house or flat share. Do you have separate shelves? Why not label your food? Or you could cut blocks of cheese in half and label each one, or decant half the orange juice into another vessel for yourself. OR, even better, why not get another fridge and get it fitted with a lock?

Food gets eaten. Happens all the time in my house. Fancy a choccy biscuit ? Guess what ... none left. Thats life !

Go and buy some more, far less stressful than posting on here about it !

I think arguing over this is very petty.

If he drinks a lot of juice, then you/he needs to either buy more juice or just stop buying juice altogether.

If he keeps drinking that much he'll end up a fat bloater. Yuk.

He is greedy though, and YANBU to be annoyed. He also seems to have no self control. Orange juice isn't even nice

BUT, counting every penny like that cannot be healthy for a relationship. Next step weighing portions of food at dinner??

However he is being greedy and throughtless. And that much OJ is going to make him fat. Shedloads of sugar.

Why don't you buy apple juice instead?

See, my DH eats all of the bread. However, I eat all of the chocolate, biscuits and cake, so I get the better deal

YANBU - he should be more considerate. He knows you like OJ with breakfast so he should make sure you always have some.

BUT I have to agree with other posters that if you have a life together you should just pool all your money and then spend it on what you both want or need.

You can still have your 'own' money - just pay yourselves some spends out of the joint earnings.

I have the same system with my dp. We live in a student flat. Whatever the bill is we just split it. However, we don't argue about who eats what or how much someone eats/drinks. But then we are both fair people and don't take the piss. I think you need to book your dp into OJ rehab.
