to expect DS to come home with all the things he took to school?

So. We have had 7 days of school since term started. So far DS has left behind: his jumper , his drinks bottle (twice), the plastic pot in his packed lunch, his school shoes (he forgot to change after PE) and his school trousers (he has after school football and he comes home in his PE kit). True, they have all reappeared the following day (except the drinks bottle, now AWOL for the third day).

I don?t ask much. Only that he comes home in the clothes he started the day with, together with book bag and lunch bag (with all the ?bits? it contained when he left).

Or maybe IABU and all 5 year old boys are useless at this sort of thing.

Lasted all my 16 year olds ds's school life ..so afraid it gets no better

It's not just boys - have lost track of the number of water bottles dd has lost in her first year!

I hate to tell you this but....DS1 is 8 and so far he's left behind:

His water bottle (twice)
His lunchbox (eeew)
His jumper
His coat
His guitar

Sorry - it doesn't seem to get any better...

Buy 2-3 of everything.
Big, clear labels.
It all turns up again eventually.

And if it doesn't, get down to lost property or the 2nd hand uniform sale!

It doesn't all turn up again though. My ds 'lost' a jacket which had a name tape clearly sewn in. He didn't even forget it, someone took it from by his bag while he was playing after school. 1/2 the boys have navy jackets so I assumed it would turn up when his mum noticed the name tape, but it didn't. So apparently his parents decided it was OK to keep it.

All 3 of mine leave things in school, everything is labeled but it doesnt stop them from forgetting them.

Dd1 has just started comprehensive and we have tried to explain that if she leaves things there they will not be there the following day, as the cleaners put everything in the lost property.

YABU to expect a 5 year old boy not to leave stuff behind on a regular basis, but equally YANBU for it to drive you nuts

Romanarama this coat disappearing act has happened at my DDs school too. Turns out that one of the kids had taken a coat home and mummy had taken the name tape out...

I now sew a name tape in the collar and half way down the inside sleeve too.

The younger two seem to forget water bottles, lunch boxes (once over a half-term), jumpers etc and to be fair half the time I forget to check what they have until we are home and it is too late.

at coat thefts! How do you ever get to check all the inside sleeves though?

YANBU my 8 yr old came out of school yesterday without her Coat, she couldnt find it, well she had left it in the playground at playtime and as it was pooring down the coat was majorly wet.

I have to agree that although you label things they dont always come back. I had a jumper go missing last yr at the beginning of the yr it turned up at the end of the yr and someone had scribbled over the name label, i was so shocked and horrified how could someone do that its is theft i c ant believe some parents encourage it.

I have got to the point of checking ds1's bag as soon as he comes out of school and sending him back to get the missing items. Thing is, I sent him back in three times yesterday and then when we got home he told me he'd forgotten his homework!

He is in year 3 so almost seven and a half and has been like it since year 1. His teacher says they are all the same. Drives me to distraction.

His coat went missing in the first term of year 1. It turned up at the end of last term (so last week of last term year 2)! Turns out they were having a clear out before the summer and a teacher found it squashed under some storage boxes in the general area where they sometimes have group lessons. Coats don't go anywhere near there, so its beyond me how it got there. It was a lovely little coat, which would now fit is brother but has come back literally covered in rust marks!

One of my big bugbears is when you give them a letter/reply slip/payment to hand in and then it comes back in their bag at the end of the day. I usually give up by day three and give it to the teacher myself.

I don't buy drinks bottles any more
I send him in which just a clear plastic bottle you buy water in
Then if he loses it, it doesn't matter as we've got about 15 of the damn things in the cupboard

DD3 is 17 and she still manged to lose stuff last term. It does usually turn up again.

The ninth day back at school today and DS1 (9) has -

• forgotten to bring lunchbox home once
• forgotten to take lunchbox to school once
• is wearing his PE Trainers as he put his school shoes in his PE bag two days ago and still hasn't taken them out
• came home with a fleece yesterday we haven't seen for months - they must have been emptying the lost property box
• lost school fleece this morning and just as I was ranting the doorbell rang and a friend's mum dropped it in as he had left it at hers last night. And a book.
• is wearing trousers flapping round his ankles because he keeps putting all the news ones in the laundry basket despite me telling him not to and reminding him that he will run out of trousers that fit

Need I go on?

I second the check as soon as outt the door approach then immediately send back, ok you wont spot everything but its a start

We once lost a lunch box over the summer - and it was in Lost Property when they went back! (I wasn't sure we wanted it back in those circumstances though...!)
We seem to have cracked the "bringing your lunchbox home" problem,but are still battling with coat,school fleece,violin,reading book,and, on a bad day,glasses...DS is 9.

I can't send mine back in! Once they're out they're out. So that's it.

I have 3 dcs in primary school and I live at the lost property bins. Ds1 (8) left his entire games kit at school for the whole of the summer holidays - he swore blind he had brought it home but then his old teacher handed it to me on the first day of term. Sigh.
