to think that all 4-d scans look the same?

Am I missing something? They all look identical. Has anyone had one and been able to actually say "ooh doesn't he look like grandpa?" or "he's got your nose" or something like that?

My friend just showed me the dvd of her 4d scan and it looked just like every other 4-d scan I've ever seen. She was made up, and it's her money, so I'm sure she's happy, but I'm more curious to know whether anyone has actually been able to see anything in theirs that looks different to any other 4-d scan.

YANBU. Babies in those scans all look identical - smooshed up faces and weird looking noses.

It's not something I have ever thought about - but no YANBU.

One of dds scans was very sinister. She was facing the ultrasound wand thingy so you could see this little skull face!!

MTR - DDs last scan was just like that.... scary skeletor face!!! At least with ultrasound scans they all look fuzzy and wierd. But 4-d scans are so clear, you kind of expect to be able to see how much your baby looks like Uncle George, but really they just look squashed and wierd too! I'm glad I'm not alone.

Lol! I had one with dd and she actually looked the same as the pics after she was born too, it was quite a clear scan. I am going to have one with this dd tomorrow so shall let you know if it looks just the same as dd1's

I'm with fifitot here, can't see the point of spending money on 4D scans. Cheaper just getting it done on the NHS.

I hate how they call them 'bonding scans' - yes, because I am not sufficiently bonded with my baby that I have grown inside me for several months, I need to see an image of this weird little squashed frog baby squirming around trying to get away from the nasty ultrasound prodder thing.

Newborns look weird, babies in utero look weird.

Kat, when ds was born and plonked on my chest I remember super clearly saying loudly to everyone in the room "oh my God, he's the most beautiful child in the room"... looking back at the photos taken at the time he looked freaking wierd!!! Maybe the hormones make you see something other than the reality! I'm pg now, and even though I'm pumped full of hormones I couldn't help thinking "that's one wierd looking baby" when I was watching the dvd, maybe it has to be your baby for you to appreciate it. My friend was so happy bless her!

Meh, I think most newborns look pretty similar. Allow for some size/colouring difference and you pretty much have a squashed looking hairless monkey.

I had a 4-D scan with DS2, and some of the pics are amazing*. A friend of mine had one with her twins & they aren't very good or clear. I can honestly say that my baby actually^ looked like his 4-D scan pics.

They give me the heebs. (I should maybe post this on the irrational-things-that-freak-you-out thread. They honestly make me feel sick.
I'd be seriously worried if my baby had come out looking like its 4d scan.
Mind you, I didn't go all gooey and ridiculous over dd's normal ones either. She just looked like a potato for 3 months and then a potato with limbs for the other 6.
Perhaps I didn't have any hormones.

bucharest that made me laugh! I also felt a similar way, wasn't all gooey over DS when I was carrying him, or when I saw the scan photos. I didn't get excited until he was born, when I knew all was safe and well. And even then they all look like Winston Churchill.

I had a 4D Scan done and i can honestly say my baby looks just like his dad , and doesnt look squashed up. We got 2 cheeky pictures of him sticking his middle finger up and one sticking 2 fingers up which was funny to watch (not that he will be allowed to do it when he arrives!LOL! ). My scan only cost £80 so i think it was cheap and worth it.

MorningTownRide - we have a pretty sinister skull scan of Ds too. He had his arms crossed as well, it looks like a pirate flag!

I actually do 4d scans for a job - and so i know i am biased. They dont all look the same - some are truly amazing and others are bit more difficult to see.

They are called a bonding scan because they have no medical use and it is supposed to be a chance for you to bond a bit more with the baby.

there is some evidence that shows if mothers (and fathers) have a positive experience during the scan it can help with intial bonding.
Remember the NHS one is to look for abnormalities and so can be more stressful - it is for the sonographer.
During the 'bonding' 4D scan the pressure is off to get a good look at the organs etc and only look at the face.

The quality of such scans is of course dependent on many factors - when the scan is preformed - too early and the baby has too little fat and too late and they will indeed look very squashed up.

It is not for everyone and i am not sure i would have wanted one when i was pregnant - but most of the people i scan say it is a wonderful experience - but again i think i am biased and it may be because i am a wonderful sonographer [tongue in cheek].

I had mine done at Babybrite but its in middlesbrough, and the RVI in newcastle do 4D scans.

I had a 4d scan done with ds2 because my LHA wasn't doing 20 week scans at the time and at the place I went to get my anomaly scan done you could get a 4d done at the same time for only a small additional cost. That was 5 years ago now and they don't do the offer anymore.

We fot a 30 min dvd of the scan, but ds2 was bring really uncooperative so about 25 minutes of that are hopeless. The other 5 minutes were great though and when he was born it was amazing how much he looked like the scan images.

I don't agree that all babies look alike though. Ds2's facial features were distinctly different to ds1's when he was newborn.

got not fot, sorry. I am typing one handed whilst feeding dd (7 months) who incidently does look strikingly similar to ds1 as a baby.

I had a 4d scan with my DS2 and he came out looking like his pic! He was actually stillborn so the 4d scan pics are a treasured item (especially the dvd with him moving about alive and well) and we have one of the photos on our mantle piece and people always comment on how much he looks like our other DS's!

So yabu, as they don't always look the same. But of course my boys are just so stunningly gorgeous that they don't look like other 'average' babies.
