To think Johny Boden is ripping us all off?

I love Boden children's clothes but is it really worth what we pay for it?

Johny must be making a fortune out of us

And the quality is not that great either.

Sorry just having a moan because i can't afford all the nice things i would like to buy

The sweatshirts are great and last well but the tops I have bought for myself have all lost their shape. Agree also that you have to be tall - at 5'3" I can't buy any "bottoms" from them!

I do like Boden stuff but only get it second hand.

I have a DS and hate all the boring blue, green, red, black, navy, grey, beige, cream, white, brown, khaki, stone coloured stuff.

However I have found if you spend a lot of time looking rather than just grabbing the first things you can see you can find some lovely pink, purple, turqouise, lime green, yellow, orange, burgandy, teal, mustard and marroon stuff in normal high street shops.

On girls I still hate black, navy, grey, beige, cream, white, brown, khaki, stone but don't mind red, blue or green as they are more unusual and dislike pink and purple as that's all you seem to be able to see in most shops.

I just had a look at their site. Seems they only have white children in Boden-land. Quite odd really.

Hmm, there are a few in their video. Still ghastly though.

Ugh.

Just bought a gorgeous rust coloured jacket off ebay. RRP £73 I paid £5

DS loves pink and really suits purple aswell but even though a lot of the shops stock boys clothes in these colours now they only stock them in pastels. Yuck!! Have a similar problem with yellow.

I love Boden but only buy it in the sale or secondhand. I don't know what clothes you've all been buying but the quality of the kids stuff especially is great. I've found the boys T shirts & trousers just last and last. And probably one of the reasons they cost more is that they are not made by some poor chinese kid in a sweatshop.

I'm certainly not well- off,( I'm not even well ) but I find that if I get DS clothes in the Boden sale, he gets loads of wear from them & then they are still good enough to sell on Ebay (unlike less-well made stuff). Sometimes mad people will pay more on Ebay for a second hand item than it cost new in the sale. Meaning that last year I effectively clothed DS for nothing.

Brilliant customer service too and they always have offers for free delivery which is always a bonus. Agree though that some of the women's stuff is vile. A bit too obsessed with whacky stripes and spots.

I love Zara's new stuff. Picked up a pair of trousers and 4 tops for DD for £30! And they were pretty stylish too!

Never bought from Boden, but intrigued enough to do so now :-)

i think MOST posh clothes shops are taking the piss. Kew, Hobbs especially, it's so overpriced and so shit quite often.

How dare they tell us some simple top thing is worth £65 when the same thing sells in M&S or whatever for 12.99? It's shocking and I don't think a boycott would be out of place, vis LKBennett thread last week...

what happened on that btw, anyone know?

Report
MichKit · 09/09/2009 12:06

Helena, that was me btw, I got a full 'goodwill refund' from LKBennett after making a lot of noise.

Though, I think the clincher for them was that a lovely journalist on Mumsnet contacted them for comment on my case, and I got a call the very next day telling me that they were offering me a full refund. Not that I have much 'goodwill' for them anymore

I used to buy Boden stuff but find that the quality has got worse over the years - in inverse proportion to their prices. Also, where we live, it seems that every second child is in the same thing, which is a bit dull. I do buy some bits in the sales because as lots of people have said, it's very hard to buy clothes for boys that aren't too 'street' at too young an age, or covered in inappropriate slogans, and then to cap it all off, they only come in brown, grey or blue.

I confess that I buy Gap stuff as I think that the quality is better (but I try not to think of where it's made) - it washes really well, and DS2 is in lots of stuff that DS1 was in 4 years ago, and it looks almost new, and is classic so doesn't look odd.

I love Mini Boden. Have some shoes from Boden for myself but that is all i ever see.
But Mini Boden is great i think, everything washes so well, better than any other store i think. It always sells on close to the retail price, and if bought in the sale it often sells on for more.
The only down side is that things go out of stock quickly and you have to wait sometimes. I missed on the knee print trousers two years in a row now! lol.

Ooh Mich, thankyou for updating me

I found the thread and read the ending...really please for you, oh the power of the press!!! Well done.

I have only bought 5 items max from them-only in the sale. I do like the quality-I love the stuff for kids and would buy if expense was not an issue. However, the full price adult clothes are just too expensive which, no doubt, is why I keep getting discount codes, free p&p, return offers etc.
They just need to lower their prices-permanently and drastically!

Then I would buy!!!

I love Johnny B I think the clothes are fab quality but I can only afford to buy stuff to fit the eldest and then hand em down - I have T shirts and trousers currently on their 3rd tomboy wearer. They will then be passed on to my nieces. I'd rather buy 3 boden T shirts for £16 each every year than 20 pieces of shit fashion from Primark at £2 each which look like dishcloths after one wash. Boden trousers are also a perfect fit for long legged gangly kids.

I keep on seeing mention of Boden on here so go off and have a look and its all so.....dull. I really dont see what the fuss is about. Iam starting to spot the 'Boden kid look' when out and about

I have to confess to buying the mac at full price last year. I have worn it about twice since then as I just feel stupid in it.
Strictly ebay Boden or sale, now.

anyone want a mac?

I love mini Boden for my 13 yo ds as the trousers fit! I live in Belgium where they only cut for tall, skinny kids, so it's alife saver. the rugger shirts and fleeces are fab, and wash and tumble beautifully. It's hard wearing stuff and I just wish they made it for up to 16 year olds as my clothes buying dilemmas for ds would be solved.

I agree Boden stuff is expensive and I simply don't see what all the fuss is about.

Boden kids clothes are nice and relatively good quality, but there are brands I'd prefer to buy for the same money (if I had any!).

I have recently started buying skirts and tops from Boden for myself and the quality is excellent as well as far superior to many of clothes one can buy on the high street.

I have not bought anything for my boys yet because I cannot bring myself to spend ££££ on 5yo twin boys who grow quickly and like to roll in grass and mud.

I have also discovered Joules (via MN) and just ordered a duffle coat for £120. I hope it is worth it!

I love some of the stuff.
Some of it looks like Julie Andrews knocked it up out of Baron Von Trapp's old curtains.
I'd never buy the pants or socks which seem hideously overpriced. No pair of pants can be worth that much.

I like some of the stuff but not all. Agree that lots of the women's stuff is overpriced.

The children's stuff is great quality though. Bought DS a twin-pack of summer PJs about 3 years ago and he is still wearing them! Bought age 5-6 when he was 5 and he is now a tall skinny 8 year old and can still wear them. They wash really well and just get softer and softer. Unfortunately our new puppy managed to tear holes in the shorts in one pair and the top in another.

as my name implies i like Boden but do not understand the obsession with it on here the obsession to bash it that is nobody is forcing you to buy it are they ???? i totally agreee with happywomble about being able to sell it again Tesco Sainsburys etc stuff is fine for childrens clothes which get a lot of wear and tear but id rather have Boden any day of the week

I am a Boden convert. Am waiting for a massive delivery for my 3dd's. I bought all the most gorgeous things. They can hand them down to each other and as others have said i am tired of supermarket stuff which shrinks and falls apart. Last big spending spree for them was mothercare but stuff shrunk and came apart fairly quickly despite being expensive. Boden will represent decent value if the items last. I used lots of discount codes and got tonnes of money off list prices.
