I love Boden children's clothes but is it really worth what we pay for it?

Johny must be making a fortune out of us

And the quality is not that great either.

Sorry just having a moan because i can't afford all the nice things i would like to buy

I was going to start a thread here on this very subject the other day after an unsolicited Boakden catalogue came through the letterbox: 'AIBU to really dislike the hideous crap that Johnny Boden sells?' And all of that shite about what his models think (as if they even have a brain) about road trips and cupcakes fgs. 'Granita thinks that carrots are the nicest veg to grow', 'Estellie thinks that Vin Diesel is the hottest man on the planet'. FGS.

ooh Callisto. Whilst I agree that those comments in the catalogue are retch-inducing, I don't think you can say that because a woman is a model she doesn't have a brain. That's just bitchy .

I buy Boden for DCs and myself. However, the stuff I wear is mixed in with stuff from many other stores - Top Shop, H&M, Tesco, Toast etc.

I think the quality of Boden clothing is great. The customer service is fabulous. And, as several others have said, tis a total delight to find clothing for boys which isn't sludge coloured and covered in graffiti-like slogans etc. I cannot abide the boys' ranges in most stores - half of it looks like it needs a damn good wash (can anyone tell me wtf "dirty denim" is all about???) and looks cheap.

For those of you who have been disappointed with quality etc, have you ever tried returning those things back to Boden? They have a 3 months no-quibble guarantee - regardless of whether the item has been worn. A friend of mine had a jumper from there which looked shocking after 6 months and that was replaced without question too.

Boden if fugly. Anything purchased there is a rip off because it is fugly.
Maybe I will like it when I am 30. DH is over 30 and he thinks that it is pensioner clothing so maybe I won't.
Boden is great for a laugh. Feel miserable? - Go on the Boredum Boden site and laugh at the tartan trousers.
I saw a man and his son wearing matching pairs one day. Fucking hilarious

I've only bought Boden stuff second hand on ebay, and haven't been that impressed tbh, especially as the dresses looked shabby and a bit shapeless after one or two washes which is why I haven't ever paid full price for anything from the site.
I do go on the site and like most of hteir childrens things, but the £££ I really couldnt justify around £100 for 3 dresses, that's a week's food for 5 of us.

I like Boden kids stuff, particularly the boys things. My DD loves the ridiculous flowery trousers, spotty frocks and T-shirts with huge ice creams on the front. BUT we only ever buy in the sale as we couldn't ever afford to pay full price. I find that the fit on the girls stuff isn't that great and as I really hate things like low slung, skinny jeans, I am not a fan of the girls trousers, at all.

Women's stuff is vile, have never seen anything that I would wear. DH and DS1 love the men's shirts, though, particularly the heavily patterned ones! I do think that he must be coining it in and that there really is no justification for a lot of the prices, who can pay that much for a pair of summer pumps, a handbag or a hideous top? Certainly not me. I do agree, though, about the prices in a lot of high street shops. There must be a lot of people paying the price for disposable fashion, somewhere.

The Mini Boden stuff is great - I buy it for the dds in the sale, it lasts for years between them and then I sell it on ebay if it's not too damaged!

The womenswear is a bit hideous though, and very ageing on me (I'm 33 so still into Topshop and Oasis etc). DH won't touch the menswear - he's faaar too cool!

Oh and in answer to the OP, I think Boden is a uge rip off, and it has become more expensive over the last couple of years. I can't help but be cynical about the fact that this company has grown exponentially therefore its profits and buying power is higher than ever yet their prices have risen massively. .

not aware of any compulsion to wear or purchase, unless he is dragging y'all by the well manicured hand and forcibly dragging your plastic out of your orla kiely handbag

so if you likey the clothes - buy em
if not - dont buy

simple really

just put your well heeled foot down

never bought any and cant see the attraction. Some told me that Mr Boden was not a nice man but didn't explain further?

I think JB should be fined for the environmental damage in sending so many catalogues out...mine go straight to recycling..I just look online at sale time.

Johnny Boden isn't ripping me off as I'm not buying his clothes. I only heard of Boden a month ago so have been blissfully ignorant of this craze but aware that most mummies in the park look the same. Now I know why. I have looked at the prices - I will continue not to buy.

I bought quite a few bits and pieces a few years ago, but nearly everything looks tacky and falling apart after wearing/washes. My cheap Tesco clothing has lasted much better, quite honestly.

Won't bother again.

Yeah, but the discounts are pithy and the prices are now based on these discounts being applied so there's no bargain to be had in them.

IMVHO .

I don't know ginormoboobs, I am 30 and I only came across Boden recently (through this site) and think the clothes are ok but too middle aged trendy for me. And I am certainly not a mutton dressed as lamb type .

They are definitely expensive but can't comment on the quality. I certainly wouldn't spend that sort of money on day to day clothes but then I can't afford to. Definitely wouldn't buy kids clothes from there as my kids stain every item of clothing they own (to be fair it doesn't help that I am rubbish at stain removal ).

I used to buy my DS Boden clothes, but stopped 5 years ago. This was because their factories used to be in Ireland and are now elsewhere. The ethics and the quality have declined.

it is the same old story. It started off selling good things in an ethical manner and then expanded into a monster.

I only buy kid's stuff, with min 20% discount, in sales or on ebay. I think the quality varies wildly, as does design. What I like, however is that the approach - with a few exceptions - is to make proper children's clothes as opposed to mini adult stuff. Some of the girl's dresses and knitwear is lovely and DS is addicted to the tartan baggies. The adult's stuff is awful.

Think Boden are bloody brilliant.

I am sitting here in one of their lovely green patterned halterneck dresses that people always ask me where I got it from!

Both my DCs love their clothes and they wash and wear time and time again and aren't too old for them so that, especially DD, ends up looking like a little tramp.

And they always refund me a percentage of what I pay for DHs shirts when the elbows wear through - even after a years wear - brill customer service!

YANBU. I looked through mini boden website last night looking for jim jams for DS and rapidly came off when I realised pyjamas from there were more expensive than the clothes I currently dress him in during the day!

My current fave place to buy clothes for DS is Next! Not ridiculously priced, but very good quality.

dal21 - Yes, I often dress my DC from Next, much cheaper than Boden and can't see any difference in quality. Also have found if I stretch to splashing out for them in GAP, the clothes wear well and wash well.

YANBU.

I like how some of Johnny's clothes look. The kids stuff is sweet. It is a bit of a uniform though, really easily identifiable like Cath Kidston. North London seems to be Boden/Kidston capital.

I don't like how they are obviously cheaply made and fall apart or fade. Even George at Asda clothes don't do that like Boden stuff.

I wonder how much the people who make the clothes are paid?
