I live in a fairly good area and have nice neighbours on the whole. The guy next door is moving out and is letting his house. I mean we could get really nice people in but of course we might not. My parents had this happen to them and are now living with the neighbours from hell so I suppose I am sensitive to this.

There is no reason for tenants to be any worse than owner occupiers as DH points out and if he sells it you would have the same concerns. It's just that I think renters just don't have the same 'investment' iykwim. I worry if we get young people sharing who might be noisy etc....Or some serial benefit wastrels.

Maybe I am just being a snob or paranoid or both!

YANBU - For being a little worried or apprehensive about new neighbours.

YABU- for making sweeping statements that suggest renters are worse than buyers. That and your tone towards it comes off as being very snobby.

We rent, next door are quiet and they bought, house on the end bought. Quiet family area. Only house with issues and noise on our cul-de-sac, house on the end. Middle aged couple with a teenage child and the parents like to have screaming matches and argument stay every few months end up in the street.

Anyone who thinks that tenters have the monopoly on noise and general twattery should meet our (owner occupier) neighbours., Also, at least renters are likely to move quite quickly. My lot have been here 12 years!

We rent abroad, two 50+ adults, two cats, and a 21 year old during university holidays. We are quiet, polite and respectful. We let out our house in the UK, to people our age, who won't be having parties, and will look after the house. I am very picky about tenants.

AngryGinger · 30/04/2017 09:46

How do you know people your age will look after the house and not have parties scary?

Look on the bright side - if they're awful tenants you have more recourse than if they're awful owners!
