at an indoor play area today with my ds's, sat in the baby area with ds2 (9months), who was dressed in blue socks, blue jeans and a red rugby top.
Woman says "oh she's lovely whats her name?"
I say he's a boy he's called ....."
She replies, "oh, I thought he was a girl, his face is too pretty to be a boy."
Not sure how I feel about this comment, I'm sure she wasn't being offensive, and it's always nice to hear your child being priased.
Alot of people comment on how lovely looking he is, but this seems a strange thing to say.
Does she mean boys can't/shouldn't be lovely looking.

Maybe she's just a bit mental, doll.

I'd just shrug it off. People just say things for the sake of saying something half the time. She was probably just backtracking as she'd got his gender wrong.

And it really isn't good form to call people a 'bit mental!'

People often used to mistake DS2 for a girl.
But he has got huge blue eyes and a rosebud mouth (and had a mop of curly hair), even if he was head to toe in blue, they still thought he was a girl (even in some cases after I'd told them his name!).

It's just someone complimenting your child who didn't really put it across well, no worries.

Oh, and of course boys can be lovely looking, mine are both stunners (when they are freshly washed and dressed, after 30mins or so they look feral)

My DS is always being mistaken for a girl, although he really does actually look like a girl.

I was on the beach last sunday playing with ds, trying to get his boat to float when 2 older kids came along. one said 'i can make it work' i looked at ds and said, 'would you like this little girl to help you with your boat?'. the child said' I'm a boy, my name is sam and I'm 6, I'm not little'....

oops... in fairness he did have long blonde curly hair (and it was raining and my glasses were wet!)

She was trying to compliment you and it came out a bit wrong.

I'm don't think I'm over analysing, it just struck me as a strange thing to say and I was wondering what other people thought, that's all, MadameCastafiore and Overbydeadbody.

flipping eck she was only being friendly, I used to dress dd2 in pink and I can remember being asked whats his name as she was as bald as a coot till she was 2, I used to laugh, why would I be offended at a passing comment.Get a grip!!
