to be fed up that High School Musical merchandise is so gendered towards girls meaning my ds cant even buy a HSM magazine??

the main characters are 3 boys and 3 girls so how did everything to do with HSM end up being mostly aimed at girls?

my ds is 4 1/2 and absolutely loves HSM and lately is really getting into the music and loves watching the films. no now naturally he wants the clothes and lunchbox and also wanted to get the HSM magazine the other day in Asda. after skipping through it i had to talk him into picking something different as the free gift was some girly lip gloss thinng or something and it was full of 'girly' stuff.

why cant they do a boy magazine too? surely my ds isn't the only boy in the uk that likes HSM??

i think there was boys stuff in the shops at eurodisney... but maybe not... ds enjoyed the show bits anyway and got to join in lol...

get used to it though - ds is 7 and gets loads of hassle at school because he dances. this year he is not taking ballet due to peer pressure. he spends half his life dancing round the house. he's going to do musical theatre and some street thingy though i think...

cos the magazine was about boyfriends and makeup and i love troy posters.

once my ds starts school ive gotta look into the price of dance classes as ds really wants to dance so thought id let him try it out. although his idea of dance is throwing himself all over the floor and spinning on his back so maybe break dancing would suit him better!!

DS2 (6) enjoys the films, but he likes to keep it quiet. He'll put the film on 'for my sister', has the soundtrack on his iPod but I am sworn to secrecy about that.
Having said that all my DC and their mates really enjoy the HSM singing game on the Wii, but the boys do pick the 'boy' songs.

ds has some HSM pyjamas. No idea where they were from, though, it was a present.

My DS got a long sleeved high school music top from the disney shop. Just plain white with the red school logo. Was definitely boys because the lady infront of me in queue asked.

My DS1 used to love it (when he was about 7, and there was only one film and less merchandise). It was he who got DD into it.

Now he takes an interest, but not an overt one.

On holiday, when in a shop, DH saw a 5 year old boy point and say to his father "Oh look, High School Musical." "Don't be a wuss" replied the father. DH was and .

Two years ago on the last day of term, I sat in a mixed class of Year 8s (age 13) who were watching HSM. There was not one grumble from any of them, including the boys. They were all absorbed. But again, this was before HSM2 and 3 and all the merchandise aimed for 7 year old girls.

(It reminds me a little of Ben10, which around here, all boys seem to drop interest in like a hot brick by year 2. Yet Tescos sell Ben10 t-shirts for 10 year olds (which are all still on the shelves))
