to think this is really really grating?

I'm currently idly looking for a better job and have applied for several. In the process my CV has been rejected for one role I'm very very interested in due to better suited candidates a few weeks ago.

Fair enough, I thought, if better people are out there I can't help it. The agency who put me forward thought I'd be ideal. So did every other blimmin agency which talked to me about the role which keeps being advertised in different wording. Today I had yet another email from yet another recruiter about this role. A quick look on one website shows it advertised 4 times on the same page. I know it's the same role, as I had applied for all of them (the details always being vague enough that I couldn't be sure that it was not them again). Vented my frustration to the recruiter who contacted me today. He says I'm not the only one.

I wonder whether it really exists. What a waste of time. I guess I might be lucky that I was rejected.

Oh yes I've had this in the past - I think it's usually agencies trying to get the right people on their books when there isn't really a post iyswim. So frustrating!

It's not an IT job, although the company in question is an IT company.

I'm currently registered with roughly as many agencies as I have fingers and toes, the beauty of maternity leave is, that it gives me enough time to concentrate on the hunt (whilst also looking after and spending lots of time with my child, just in case Bonsoirwhatsername reads this and starts hyperventilating)

Well, she'd probably make an excellent chimney sweep, she loves climbing up everything. Would also solve the childcare cost issue...

A friend of mine used to work as a recruiter and apparently it is common practise for agencies to advertise non existent jobs to get people on their books.

e description is always pretty much the same. I would have thought that different agencies would be creative enough to not all make up the same job at the same company?

if they do mention the company name (most just say contact the agency) then the job surely must be real. Can you look on the company website and apply directly?

Possibly was an internal recruitment at the company which they had to put out to agency to follow process, but had no intention of selecting the external candidates?

But wouldn't the role be filled now then, rather than be listed again? I've no problem with losing out to better suited candidates, but I'm kind of bored that every second job advertised turns out to be the same sodding job at the same sodding company, and it's been like that for weeks.

Why does jobhunting have to be so soul-destroying?

Hi WW, this also happens to me a lot. I noticed yesterday on another thread that you are doing CIPS. I am also doing level 5 so am probably applying for the same type of jobs as you!

I do get really annoyed by it as I am desperate for a new job. I only get a response from about 10% which makes me think the others are made up.

Good luck with your studies though and your future job search Have to say I was impressed at you doing 5 exams in one go, I did 3 last year in one week and found that tough!

To be honest, if anything it was made easier by doing them all at once, as there's so much cross-over. I don't think Level 5 will be as easy, especially with going back to work, so I'm sticking to only 2 modules for the next exams, and see how it goes. Thankfully they've raised the number of exam times, so I might still get through the Level by March.

I guess since you're in North Wales (you lucky lucky person), you're not direct competition, but it's bad to hear that it's not only a local problem.

Thankfully I still have a job to return to, but I really need to move on to improve (and be able to use what I've learnt). I get 100% response from agencies on my CV, but only had one phone interview followed by an interview so far, and was then turned down because I don't have experience in the relevant industry. (Well, how can I break into it without anyone letting me try?) I wonder wheter the agencies all lie to me about my suitability or how good my CV is. Why would they, though? They can only gain from selling me. I guess some of the roles might be entirely made up.

Anyway, good luck with your job search, too.

It's the agencies. I've advertised a job on behalf of my office and then found it copied and advertised by an agency without my consent. Got them to remove it but it would have stayed up if I hadn't happened to see it. Have you spoken to the firm directly? We didn't even take apps from agencies so it would have been a waste of time for anyone who had answered them instead of contacting us directly.

I didn't try approaching them directly, there's nothing about recruiting on their website. I also wonder, couldn't I or the company get into trouble with the agency if I landed the job directly after being rejected that way?
