I get quite a lot of people writing to me 'on spec' looking for a job, asking me to take part in consultations, etc. But, it makes me so mad to get a letter addressed to Dear Mrs Chook Keeper - NO NO NO !!!! It's Dear Mrs Keeper or Dear Chook (if they know me). Why do they do this? Is no one taught the rules of salutations or am I just anal?

YANBU. Although I can't be doing with "Mrs" (unless people know you're a Mrs). I'm a Ms.

claw3 · 28/08/2009 10:57

Cant say ive given it much thought to be honest and ive been called a lot worse!

BubbaAndBump · 28/08/2009 11:11

Dear Chookie Wookie

YANBU. People who know you should understand the proper protocol.

Innit?

ChookKeeper · 31/08/2009 00:33

BandB - people who 'know' me know that I'd rip their bloody head off if they don't stick to proper protocol

And don't even get me started about anything being more than 100% (think XFactor 150%/1000% -agghhhhh )

OMG - I am anal aren't I????

madlentileater · 31/08/2009 00:49

no you aren't.
would wind me up too.

kinderfool · 31/08/2009 00:57

Bad letter writing skills drive me mental too - but I can understand the 1000% thing - to a point, if you're using it mathematically - "I got 15% more than I wanted.... I got 1000% more than I wanted" etc but not in the wanky "oooh, you're 150% better, make sure you give 1000%" use, because it's meaningless

skihorse · 31/08/2009 09:23

YANBU!

It's enough to drive one to being "stabby".

kinderfool Yes, I've "done a 360" on that too.

skihorse · 31/08/2009 09:24

n.b., I'm not sure whether stating you're "doing a 360" constitutes an algebraic error or an ignorance one.

LittleSilver · 31/08/2009 09:25

I used to do a traditinally male job and got letters all the time asking for work addressed to "Dear Sir".

They got binned.

skihorse · 01/09/2009 07:53

Littlesilver Did they know your name? When I send a letter to an entity unknown (a business), I write "Dear Sirs". I also work in a male-dominated industry and couldn't give a monkeys what I'm initially adressed as.

Anste · 01/09/2009 08:01

YANBU - it drives me mad too, it is my pet hate. What about spelling? e.g. there and their, to and too, oh I could go on and on and on!!
