To think that my GPs should ahve called me back by now, or if not the GP then at least one of the dragons in reception?

I was signed off on 10th August for 2 weeks. My sick line runs out today. i rang docs on Friday and was told that there was no way the doc could post date a sick lineand there were no appointments left for today (monday) she said she would ask GP if he would just sign a form for another 1/2 weeks, or if he needed to see me. She said someone, either herself or GP would get back to me by "10am Monday at the altest".
No response. Work have been on the phone wanting to know if I'm going back tomorrow and I said no, and they asked where my sick line was!

You need to phone them. They probably have a million and one things to do on Monday morning and your little post-it note has fluttered onto the floor or something. Ring em.

She initially told me to call up on Tuesday and see "if there was an appointment availiable", but I rang back later and said that was no good if the certificate ran out on Monday. it turns out it runs out tomorrow, but I need one for today. If that makes sense. I have jsut called them and one of the receptionists said "oh there's nothing here, she must have forgotten, you will need to wait until tomoorw now as the docs are all very busy"

At my Practice, we get about 2.5% of the entire Practice population (200 people) requesting an appointment on a Monday plus many other calls. GPs have to prioritise sick patients and your GP may be dealing with heart attacks, domestic violence, swine flu and GOK what else. So I'm not surprised s/he hasn't called you back.

However I do think that it was unfair of the receptionist to lead you to believe that 10 am on a Monday would be a likely time for your GP to call about a non-emergency matter. The receptionist also mis-informed you about sick notes as they can be postdated - we do this all the time.

Yup, my doc backdated a sicknote for me once.

you can't backdate a normal sicknote (the white ones) as it is illegal (it actually says on it I examined you today/yesterday). But if you have been seen before and you need to extend the sick leave there is a different form (it's pink) and they can be forward or backdated (but only as far back as when the doctor saw you).

I would go to the surgery and wait until the sick note can be done for you
