It is my pet hate, they move down before the bus stops..stumble a bit..grab the nearest thing. Not one of the many poles or hand rails but my pram handle
Do they think it won't tip up if they fall?
Or am I being too protective of my precious newborn?
It is happening so often now that I snap at anyone who touches it.grr

"People touching prams
People not baby proofing houses
Cleaners making themselves cups of tea
People not shifting their big arses off sofas
Foreign au pairs being made to come along on outings

Are we turning into a nation of petty princesses or is everyone just pissed off with the British summer? "

And to add to The Bolter's list, partners going for an after-work snifter without permission from SAHM.

As a newbie, I'm finding it very entertaining, I'll wait and see if this is the silly season, or just the norm for mumsnet.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/08/2009 12:03

PSML at the entire proceedings.

I roared when I opened QS's link, I was actually thinking, bloody hell that's a good idea.

This is actually very much in keeping with the other bizarre threads going on at the mo, as Bolter says.

MP - as mad as this is, you must have seen worse in the mad mumsnet world, surely?

MoominMymbleandMy · 21/08/2009 12:09

Couldn't you use a sling instead? Then you wouldn't have a pram for anyone to tip over.

babyignoramus · 21/08/2009 12:58

We are lucky here as we have buses designed to take about 4 buggies (assuming they aren't massive!) if the parents stand. What this means though is one side of the bus is completely open - prams are often the only thing available to grab. I don't mind but I can't imagine my cheapo stroller being much use if someone did go over!

What annoys me more are the muttered comments my sister gets when she takes her disabled DD on the bus in her buggy ('that child should be walking, not taking up space in a buggy' etc.etc.).

ElieRM · 21/08/2009 13:15

Mumsnet is clearly the centre of all madness at the moment.
I'd only just recovered from the 'poor people' thread. And people wonder why threads descend into silliness? What the bloody hell else are we supposed to do?

OtterInaSkoda · 21/08/2009 13:46

YABU! Having said that for the first few times I took ds out in his pram I wanted a loud hailer calling out " keep AWAY from the pram " on a loop. Nothing to do with the pram (which was expensive but purchased at enormous discount secondhand so it was the original owners that shelled out £500. More fool them), everything to do with my PFB.

southeastastra · 21/08/2009 13:47

get a car

GibbonInARibbon · 21/08/2009 13:59

I don't do buses.

piscesmoon · 21/08/2009 14:00

I thought the 'horrible, dirty, strangers touching my baby' was bad enough.... but I was wrong-I didn't expect it to expand to 'don't touch my pram'!!!

PuppyMonkey · 21/08/2009 14:14

Course none of this would be a prob if it wasn't for pesky bus drivers slamming their brakes really hard on purpose in order to send people flying. They do, it's a fact.

YABU - seriously, is this all you have to worry about??

ScummyMummy · 21/08/2009 14:22

yes- you are being very sweetly over-protective imo. Don't worry- tis natural to be a lioness protective of your new cub. But will you look back and blush? Very probably!

Trikken · 21/08/2009 14:23

it would only annoy me if they didnt apologise, or if by them grabbing it they somehow hurt the baby.

FWIW some people like me live to far to walk into the nearest town, it would take literally all day, so walking is not an option for some of us and those of you suggesting we 'must' or 'I would rather walk a billion miles' seem to be being rather uptight for some reason. Well harsh calling the OP a lazy bint. lay off.

If you can, fold pram. otherwise dont worry. its not always possible with baby's bag, your hand-bag, or another child being with you.

OtterInaSkoda · 21/08/2009 14:24

To be fair I think the OP is concerned about people tipping the pram over, not actually touching it.
And I certainly don't think she should have to fold it - unless the bus is v.busy or someone needs the space for a wheelchair. The whole point of prams surely is to be able to carry shedloads of shopping and a baby, with ease. Having to unload it all to get on a bus rather defeats the object.
She also mentions that her dc is a newborn - hence she's being U. She'll get over it in time.

TheChilliMooseTalksNonsense · 21/08/2009 14:29

I suspect it the their way of letting you know that they don't like your pram taking up space.
OMG! Just had a thought! They might leave swine flu germs on the handle of the pram!

mumface · 21/08/2009 15:56

It's not a case of not wanting anyone to touch pram, or germs.Perhaps some of you are not reading all the posts.
It's the fact that I don't want the pram to tip up!
It is much too far to walk or carry shopping.I have a 2 year old & a five year old also.
It would take 1 and a half hours to walk it.30 mins on the bus. hardly a lazy bint. I walk DS to school each day,a 30 min walk each way.
It's hardly unreasonable to not want my 8 week old catapulting accross the bus because somebody (whether infirm or not) cannot wait 30 seconds for the bus to stop & then get out of their seat!

OP posts:
TheChilliMooseTalksNonsense · 21/08/2009 16:41

Maybe they panic that the busdriver will go past their stop if they are not at the doors waiting to get of.

rolledhedgehog · 21/08/2009 16:45

Your baby should be strapped in the pram so if it does tip there will be no catapulting.

My pushchair tipped up when I stumbled on a kerb (all my own fault, no great unwashed involved). I am now evangelical about the importance of stapping in babies and toddlers.

Chulita · 21/08/2009 16:57

The only time I minded was when I was on a train and I'd just got DD off to sleep when a lady was waiting to get off and nearly fell over when the train stopped. Fair enough she grabbed the pushchair out of instinct but she tipped the whole thing over, woke DD up (of course) who then started screaming cos she was hanging from her harness. The lady then got off the train without saying sorry or helping me pick the pushchair back up again. We weren't in the way, we were in the disabled/pushchair spot (the signs did say for both, and of course I'd have moved if someone else needed it ) I'm sure the lady was probably really embarrassed but even a muttered apology would have been something.
YANBU if you're not in the way but people just grab it out of instinct so YABU to snap at people. [sits on the fence]

mumface · 21/08/2009 17:04

Rolledhedgehog was expecting that comment. Most lie flat prams do not have harnesses.
Chulita that is exactly the experience I am trying to avoid.
I am not in the way & nobody ever apologises.

OP posts:
TheChilliMooseTalksNonsense · 21/08/2009 17:06

Is it possible to turn the pram/pushchair around so that the handle is at the wall, if you see what I mean.

mumface · 21/08/2009 17:11

Yes it is possible if I am the first one on & the bus is empty. But not possible to reverse in easily if bus is full with others sitting around the space. My back wheels are wider than the front so not possible to fit 2 in that way if I am second on IYSWIM. Also driver doesn't wait so you have to get in pronto, or it will be me tipping the pram up

OP posts:
mumface · 21/08/2009 17:21

Also parked the other way round they are more likely to fall on the hood of the pushchair which falls down easily, and land on the baby. If they really must get up early for fear of missing their stop the should find a rail & hold on tight.Job done.

OP posts:
Chulita · 21/08/2009 17:38

You could shriek 'Mind my baby!' in a high pitched squeal with your hands on either side of your face and a look of horror - they'd be so terrified they'd never do it again!
If I grabbed a pram by mistake I'd deffo apologise. They can tip over and even if it's an accident it's still horrible.
