Am not liking the way the babble is sounding like 'didyaaaheeeeetha' when dh lets one rip. And the way ds is laughing at his own wind. Have heard my dh have this exchange with him. (if you can imagine dh saying 'Did you hear that?' in shocked kenneth williams voice)

My dh used to do this with my daughter when she was little and she was highly amused...then...not now though. She outgrew it and he soon got the message.

I can remember the hilarity and sheer glee my ds had when he first farted in the bath. That was with no coaxing whatsoever.

We now laugh at farts together, if you can't beat the join them, much to my mums disgust...

It wears a little thin after a while. As the mum of a boy I am sooo bored of fart/bum/poo jokes.

My dd loves farting right now. She's 8 and will either grow out of it or she'll be one of the lads...the lager lout type lads.

I have 2 DS and have resigned myself to the fact that I am going to be surrounded by fart gags for the rest of my life.

DH finds his own emissions hilarious and encouraged DS1 to 'pull his finger' as soon as he was old enough to follow instruction.

dh won't be encouraging that one I think fruitstick. He listens to his mother prattle on about it contributing to arthritis! (which dh has. Er app cos he pulled his fingers to make ripping fart noises)

PMSL at this one - my DS2 (19yo, and a new father) told me today how proud he is that his son (5 weeks) smirks at every pop.

Mind you, he is the fartiest baby I've met in a long time.

However. My DD (now 8 yrs old) used to fart constantly as a baby - I used to hear her over the baby monitor let rip like God knows what from newborn til I chucked out the damn monitor (after about 8 weeks!) I still maintain that, as it was a 2 way monitor, my farting newborn remembers my giggles when I heard it and now, 8 years on thinks its still amusing.

I used to work in a nursing hospice on night shifts and the girls I worked with used to hold...farting competitions...

Seriously. At 4am it is the LAST thing you need.

Aw! Farting is the one joke that is universally funny in all languages and at all ages. No matter where you are, who you are or what you are doing I DEFY YOU ALL not to snigger a bit if you hear someone accidentally sneak one out a bit louder than intended!

There is however, one exception - doing it in bed and then wafting the covers is NOT acceptable behaviour and warrants 43 minutes on the naughty spot.

My dd2 (5) made a "list" last week - she came and told me.

It was "what Mummies are good at"

and included

Cuddling
Cooking Spag Bol
Kissing
Making biscuits
Having surprises
Farting.

I was strangely proud of myself for that!

So long as your DS eventually realises that you will disown him if he laughs too uproariously or if indeed he wafts it.

I find adult men who deliberately fart in public and find it funny very juvenile and completely unsexy. My brother does this , although he has got better as my SIL is also unimpressed. Controlling your bodily functions is part of becoming a civilised adult in my opinion. I wouldn't want a bloke who sniffed or deliberately burped either.
