To be pissed off that dp has spent £100 on best man present?

Yet he says that he doesn't think my bridesmaids deserve that much being spent on them! !
Long story re my dsis being chief bmaid, bit of a falling out, but other two are lovely and whilst they haven't actively done anything yet, I know they will be great on the day.
Best man has done nothing except prepare a speech.
Is this the done thing? We are not exactly rolling in money, and I just feel that it is quite an extavagant thing to do - it's a voucher for buyagift.com.

Not the done thing for us, bridesmaids got a token photo frame, but had all dresses, jewellery etc bought for them, best man got a pen, £30? worth so did get more then them but still not that much.

too much if a) you can't afford to do the same for your bridesmaids b) you can't afford it period.

I think its too much and ..... a voucher ? It should be a reminder or keepsake of the big day

Well - will the bridesmaids be making speeches too? What will they be doing, other than carrying flowers and looking pretty? (Sorry, but that's all my bridesmaids did!).

Our best man, on the other hand, organised coaches to and from the wedding venue, looked after my very difficult FIL-to-be the night before the wedding and during it, and prepared and delivered a fabulous speech ...

Are you paying for the bridesmaids' dresses? Is the best man paying for his own suit? And you do have 3 (I think?) bridesmaids - are you spending about £30 on each of them?

£100 is a lot of money, and yes it's unreasonable to spend this if you can't afford it, but I can't help wondering if you're annoyed that the best man is receiving any gift at all ...?

No, no MummyDragon, that's not the case at all.
All I was saying was that he hasn't done anything over and above what the bmaids have done to deserve a more expensive present. He hasn't and won't be organising any coaches, my dp has not had a stag night (dp's choice-freak) and has no other duties really. He has bought his own suit to be fair, but he is quite well off and will probably use it for work. I think I was pissed off because I feel that dp is trying to impress the best man, but is not bothered about "impressing" the bridesmaids, so they can just have any old tat IYSWIM.
I've calmed down a lot now, I was just ranting as I could not believe he was spending that much.

Well I got the bmaid pressies today - a small hinged photo frame from The White Company (memento) and a Juicy Tube lip gloss as I wanted them to have a fun item too as they are all quite young. Personally I would love that as a gift and it came to the grand total of £25.00 each. Result!

Sounds like a really lovely gift blondissimo - I'd love to receive that as a gift too

This thread has just reminded me we didnt buy anything for our best man.
And he was a star.
We meant to bring him something back from Honeymoon but I ended up in hospital so any ideas went out of the window.
Any ideas anyone? We do not see him much as he lives about 500 miles away and he is young, free and single and has better things to do than visit us wrinklies with children.

But, best man deserves a present just as much as bridesmaids. Perhaps convince dh to be to your point of view. However, if he has already bought it, not a lot you can do now.

Yes he has already bought it, so you're right, not a lot I can do now. I spent a lot on the mother of the bride/groom presents and told dp he is paying for it !
