Here - baby t-shirt

A colleague emailed this to me. She thought it was funny.

AIBU to think I should say something about the inappropriate sexualisation of babies / children or should I just let it go? Maybe I'm having a sense of humour bypass.

What does anyone else think?

You can just imagine what the parents look like, can't you? No leap of the imagination required there...

T shirt is not even vaguely amusing..

As kids in the 80s we used to say use the words 'spaz' all the time in a very derogatory way. We didn't know it was offensive because nobody told us it was. I am absolutely disgusted now of course that I ever thought that was OK, and that parents or teachers never said anything.

Maybe in the US they'll wise up to the true meaning and the word will become taboo there too?

Leonie - I didn't know that about the word 'fit'. It certainly seems to be acceptable here as far as I know.

spaz is much less offensive in the US. Whilst being derived from spastic, for some reason spaz means energetic in the US.

The T-shirts are HORRIBLE though. My friend bought DS a shirt that said 'the incredible sulk' on it. I hate that but that's not a patch on these ones!

The 'Booby Man' one is pretty abhorrent too. No wonder people have issues with women breastfeeding in public.

I generally don't mind slogan t-shirts if they're fairly innocent but these are just repulsive.

It DOES matter about the origin of the word and I would find these offensive if I saw them. I don't think Mamaz would actually go up and punch someone, I think she was just expressing how cross it would make her feel - on good grounds I think.

I think that the baby in the OP link is particularly ugly

I associated the 'booby man' with man boobs not 'liking womens boobs' they don't need a T shirt to tell us that !!

The word spastic is just an adjective that means means characterised by spasms.
It used to be the word to discribe cerebtal palsy and SCOPE used to call itself the spastic society.So I think its a bit rich for sufferers to suddenly decide the word belongs to them and must never be used by anyone.

I am American, here's how I feel about these terms:

Hung: means here what it means to you. I find itvery poor taste to apply it to a baby.

Spaz: Comes from spastic and was originally used as a derogatory term for people with spastic conditions. It somehow became mainstream slang to describe a person who is out of control hyper. It is said in the same tone of meaning as "you idiot" or "you dumbass". I have never heard it used as a harmless synonym for energetic. I do find it offensive and generally view the speaker as ignorant and rude. I feel the same way when I hear the word "retard". This subject actually makes my blood boil a bit.

Fit: to our ears, this is a very old fashioned word for seizures, now seen as very rude and harking back to the days of unthinkable asylums and indiscriminate shock treatment.

Pimpin': UGH. Most of America seems to think that the word "pimp" is now an adjective. It's an ugly word, but fairly accepted.
