AIBU?

to not understand why anyone would find this funny?

Here - baby t-shirt

A colleague emailed this to me. She thought it was funny.

AIBU to think I should say something about the inappropriate sexualisation of babies / children or should I just let it go? Maybe I'm having a sense of humour bypass.

What does anyone else think?

the word spaz comes from spastic. a form of cerbal palsy. the reason they use it to describe something that is hyper or energetic is because sufferers will often have muscles spasms and jerk about.

it is deeply deeply offensive, whatever they commonly use it to describe the term in its origin is a piss tyake of those with SN.

it is vile.

Tamarto its the fact that the t shirt is so disgusting and yet they feel it ok to put on a child would make me lose my temper. the fact that my son is bullied daily just makes me more likely to find it offensive i suppose.
you seem to think it ok?

The header on my explorer tab says 'Funny t-shirts, offensive t-shirts'

So some are a bit funny, some are meant to be offensive. Personally I think the hung one is just a dumb thing to put on a kid.

As to spaz, the definition from a US dic is:

Main Entry: spaz
Pronunciation: &#712;spaz<br /> Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural spaz·zes
Etymology: by shortening & alteration from spastic
Date: circa 1965
slang : one who is inept : klutz

While the common US meaning may be klutz, its derivation surely makes it liable to be offensive.

No where have i said it is ok?

But being violent because of it is just as bad IMO.

If not worse because the type of person who would put a T-shirt with that on it on a child is either extremly thick or looking to cause offense.

Puncing someone because they are ignorant or because they are looking for that reaction is a bit pointless IMO, and would make you no better than them.

Tiger Woods got into trouble a while back when he used the word spaz, so it must be offensive in the US too.

Three times must be something of a record for me! Curse this over-sensitive laptop touch pad!

angelene I think I'm right in saying that Tiger Woods got into a bit of trouble a while back. Is that right ?

I think that the T-shirt in the OP is mildly funny, but generally speaking I think it's a bit naff to use your young child as an advertising board for your sense of humour.

I agree that the majority of T shirts on that site are rude, offensive and puerile in humour. I'm just grateful that you'd have to actively seek them out to buy them.
Wanting to punch someone is also something I have felt and not done. I tend to go for arrogant and over-educated retorts instead.
My son is quite capable of belting those who call him nutter and weirdo for himself, I have spent a great deal of time and effort training him not to.
So the insensitive and foul little oiks can grow up, breed and buy their offspring offensive T shirts.
Sorry Mamaz

What particularly bothered me about this was that someone I work with sent me a link to the page with the comment 'this is hilarious'! I don't understand how anyone can have that reaction to something that refers to the size of a young child's genitals.

The ones that say 'spaz' and 'pimp' on them are even worse.

For what it's worth, I think using your child to show your own sense of humour, your political beliefs or even your favoutite band is a bit dubious.

I think it's horrible.

Almost as bad as those hideous high heeled booties for babies that were all over news a while back

My God, those baby heels were horrific! They were on The Apprentice too I think in the episode when they went to the Baby Show. Everyone said how terrible they were thankfully.

We had the 'spaz' in UK vs US discussion here not too long ago (think there was an AIBU about it where someone got offended about it being used on an American message board). It isn't universally ok in the U.S. I worked with people with disabilities in the U.S. for many years and didn't find it acceptable, nor did my colleagues. But do agree it is generally used to mean 'clutzy' over there and many may not realise the origin. FWIW, think that particular shirt is very unfunny.
