To expect young kids aged 6yrs old to be in bed by 9pm

And not running around screaming down the neighbourhood with their older brothers and sisters who will be staying out until at least 11pm tonight....again.
We live on a usually very quiet estate but the big familly down the road seem to think it's Ok to let the kids stay out really late.
There are not many street lights here so they are out there with torches at the moment and pushing each other around in their granny's wheelchair (not joking).
Every day and night that wheelchair is out there doing wheelies and they pile themselves onto it.
Just lucky there are no hills here

YANBU, I think 9pm is a perfectly reasonable time to expect kids to bed at least inside the house, if not in bed.
Last friday the family accross the road had friends visiting. Their DS(4) and their friends son were out playing in the street at 12.15am! I was in DS's bedroom closing his window before I went to bed and saw them outside, there was a little girl of about 2ish walking back into the house aswell, couldn't believe it!

My 6 yr old would love that
In fact is prob ot now running around the campsite with my Mum, Dad and Ds 1 haveing a grea time.

YABU and YANBU,

my DSs (both under 6) stay up until 10. because that way, DH can spend more time with them and they sleep in until 9 or 10 and that way they won't wake us at 7 in the emorning!

if it is a quiet area wher eyou live the children shouldn't play too loudly (gran's wheelchair) though...

so i can understand where you're coming from...

Some children really do need less sleep than others. My DD goes into absolute meltdown if she doesn't get at least 10 hours, 11-12 is better for her whereas her best friend from school only needs 9-10 and genuinely can't sleep for longer than that.

It can be annoying if there are kids making noise when you are having quiet time but try to get some perspective; are they really bothering you, are they doing any damage or hurting anyone? Or are they just having fun and enjoying their holidays and the warmer evenings?

Summer holidays are only 6 weeks long, it's not a long time in the big scheme of things.

Pop! carrott out of arse ...But they are making my kids want to go out as well and if they don't get their sleep they are really grumpy the next day and i've got to deal with it.
Its the time of the month, i'm entitled to be grumpy...hmph!

YANBU. They should not be out in the street at that time but YABU - my 7 year old and 4 year old often stay up way later than 9pm in the holidays!

i agree its the holidays.but i am a grumpy arse that calls my eldest(9 and 8) in by 6 at the latest as all the coming and going wakes our 3 year old.there friends are mostly all still out till 9 or 10pm-i am the horrid mum!

At that age, in the school holidays, I was often out until very late with my big sister and the neighbouring kids. We came home when it got dark - that was about 11pm, that far north!

These kids are with their elder siblings, so are being looked out for.

I do let my DS up later during the holidays, and it can be pretty late if we are doing something. I don't think YABU, but maybe you could cut them a little slack during the holidays?

my poor 6 year old goes to bed at 7.30pm and it's just moved from 7 (big deal for me!) this holiday.

You're entitled to be grumpy but YABU

It's the summer holiday, so what if they stay up till late having fun outside? And does it really matter that they are playing with a wheelchair?

YANBU I think they should be indoors at least at this time. when youve had your own children to cope with 6-7, the last thing you want is to settle down with your bottle of wine only to hear other peoples kids making a racket. stay up late by all means, but indoors at 9pm I say.

I also have children (5&3)that need alot of sleep and when they hear the others outside they dont want to sleep either so I sympathise there

my 7 year old and 6 year old both in bed by eight in the hols, because if they stay up any longer than that i can look out they get so overtired they get grizzly the next day!!

I remember when i was little, and i would be sent to bed at 7 while all the other kids in the neighbourhood would be playing out till past 9, it would still be light outside and i would peek through the curtains and watch them, wishing i was having so much fun i still resent my parents for their stictness and for not letting us stay up later in the summer holidays, YABU, they are kids having fun, not causing havoc, just having fun

As someone with a 2 yo whose bedtime is 10-11pm YABU at dictating a universal bedtime. But one of my bugbears is people making a noise outdoors at either end of the day.

Stayfrosty do the hoovering is what I say and sod him and if he complains say about his little darling. by the way walls a bit thin where you live too by the sounds of it.

Thank christ I stay on a farm no neighbours anymore as I used to stay in a housing estate and it was a nightmare as I have a big family and they loved going out to play and later in the hols.

I think I would just leave it. It's late but I guess it's not all the time.
