AIBU to think Jude Law is a pig?

He's not a teenager but a father of 3 in his thirties. What the hell is he doing fathering a child with a woman he admits he wasn't serious about - that it was just a fling? Do men just assume that women will take care of the contraception?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 02/08/2009 13:13

I would say it wasn't an accident on the mother's part either.

SoupDragon · 02/08/2009 13:14

You can't lay the blame entirely on him - clearly the women are happy to have unprotected sex with him. They could have said no.

mayorquimby · 02/08/2009 13:14

sorry unplanned then.

Janos · 02/08/2009 13:21

How do we know she wasn't using contraception and it failed? And why on earth didn't he use something if he didn't want her to get pregnant?

Actually there's a whole load of what ifs and we can't possibly know.

The only certainty in all this is that Jude Law is a great big nob-end!

HeadFairy · 02/08/2009 13:37

I agree contraception is the responsibility of both parties, however if you a male celebrity actor type with past form for this sort of thing, you'd be extra cautious about being caught again... well you would if you didn't want to get caught. Perhaps he's got a touch of the Huge Grant thrill/danger seeking about him. Though granted she's a bit better looking than Divine Brown

stuffitlllama · 02/08/2009 13:57

Something libellous about suggesting she got pregnant on purpose. I suppose "fair comment" maybe but I think better to be careful.

limonchik · 02/08/2009 14:01

More than for this, I think he's a pig for cheating on his wife and shagging his children's nanny while the children were in the house - so his young son caught them in bed together!

violethill · 02/08/2009 14:41

Jude Law was a knob for cheating on his wife.

He's also not a particularly great actor imo.

However, in this situation, I don't get why some people think he has greater responsibility for preventing a pregnancy than the woman! They were presumably both quite happy to have a quick shag without precautions. It takes two!

In fact, if anything, I agree with riven's point, that the woman clearly has more to gain financially, while he's going to be paying out! He's no doubt got millions stashed away, whereas she's an 'aspiring actress' (ie a Z-lister who'll never earn much and needs a shortcut to getting in the papers!!)

sunfleurs · 02/08/2009 16:26

He is a horror of a man.

I feel sorry for his kids. I split up with my ex and my biggest fear is him getting someone else up the duff and presenting my dc with half siblings. What a great example for them, "no, darling it isn't daddy's girlfriend who is having your half brother/sister just a random girl he bonked for two days".

I have never really liked him tbh, just cannot see what women see in him. He looks oily to me.

Btw I don't blame her at all, I hope she takes him to the cleaners!

beanieb · 02/08/2009 17:07

surely she (the mother to be) has some responsibility for this too? Anyway - from what I have read he is going to be a part of the baby's life and will provide for it financially.

Don't see what the big deal is, he's single and he got someone pregnant so what? What is all the fuss about?

violethill · 02/08/2009 17:12

Agree beanieb.

Don't get why some people think he's totally to blame and the woman bears no responsibility. Do they have some weird idea that women and men aren't equal?

LuluMaman · 02/08/2009 17:14

he's a pig and she's incredibly stupid . or savvy. managing to get pregnant by a mega rich hollywood actor ... that's her bills paid for the next couple of decades

24 is not young. certainly she is old enough to know about contraception

squeaver · 02/08/2009 17:18

Don't know about a pig, but he's certainly a slaaaag.

sylar · 02/08/2009 17:29

I have witnessed him chatting up other women when Sienna Miller was in the same room. Beautiful but sleazy.

simplesusan · 02/08/2009 17:36

At his age and with his reputation at stake he should have had the brains to use contraception.

No wonder young men are so feckless with role models like him around.

Same applies to women too.

sleeplessinstretford · 02/08/2009 17:38

to be honest his poor first wife was party to his initial cheating IIRC.
She can harldy plead vestal virgin hurt when they both slept around with and without eachother.
I think he's a dick,i think he's not enormously handsome,i think he's not enormously talented and i think this pregnant girl has hitched her wagon and is going NOWHERE anytime soon now she can leech off him for the next two decades.

MsPunch · 02/08/2009 17:48

I just don't think she is as bad as him. She is in a totally different position, she is no-ones role model(yet) and has no other kids. She slept with someone and got pregnant by him, it happens a million times every day. Moody Judey should have been more responsible if only for his other dc. Not to mention his "High Profile". I have never rated him. If was playing Hamlet in my back garden I would close the curtains.

Wifeswapping, shagging the nanny, while in a relationship, get some random girl up the duff. The rule of three, one time - a mistake, two times - a much bigger mistake, three times and this man is a slimy toad.

beanieb · 02/08/2009 18:11

At his age? WHat is he, mid thirties? IMVHO' just because he already has a family with an ex doesn't mean he has any special extra responsibility to not get another person pregnant. For all we know it could have been a total shock, a contraceptive failure or just a spur of the moment thing which happens to have created a child and which he seems to be happy to stand by and support. Why is is so bad?

slowreadingprogress · 02/08/2009 18:49

I think he has a responsibility to his children not to get a random girl pregnant - and expect his children to cope (having already put them through the trauma of divorce and living in a split family situation) Now they have to deal with a half sibling half way around the world with someone they've not even met. Poor kids.

Eve4Walle · 02/08/2009 18:57

Takes two to tango. He is a sleaze but she had choices didn't she? We don't know all the story though and never will.

scottishmummy · 02/08/2009 18:58

why do we expect high standards from an actor.he is a rich poon hound

he isn't a politician or social commentator whom one may expect more of.

he is a once a tree actor

they both have shared responsibility for contraception, and both have failed

beanieb · 02/08/2009 18:59

poor kids! really?

Why should any of that be traumatic for his other kids? I expect it's much more traumatic for him.

msled · 02/08/2009 19:04

I thought he was fantastic and completely convincing in the talented Mr Ripley and also in the road to perdition, though I agree that Holiday was pants galore - mind you it was a truly appalling script.
I agree, two to tango and a very lucky break for Ms Sadie-Frost-Lookylikey.

MsPunch · 02/08/2009 19:06

Because they are in the public eye! Its all over the papers. Painful enough when your parents break up without all your school mates reading all the details in the press. Their dad has presented them with a new sibling and everyone knows all the ins and outs of it. He has a responsibility to his kids to take care of his personal business and not allow it become public knowledge.

If a couple split up because one was unfaithful they don't sit their kids down and say "we are splitting up because Mummy is shagging her boss" or whatever. They try to protect them from the worst of it to minimise hurt. He is not doing this by behaving so irresponsibly. Its not just once is it? Its loads of times.

slowreadingprogress · 02/08/2009 19:07

Oh, silly me beanie - just a teeny divorce and a half sibling in another country

NOOOO problem for any kids. How silly of them if they were disturbed by their life situation
